While rides, concerts, exhibits,
and tasty treats may draw fairgo
ers to the 10th anniversary of the
Georgia National Fair this Oct. 8-
17, it is the safety and comfort of
the fairgoers which is utmost in
executive director of the Georgia
National Fair and Agricenter
Michael Froehlich's mind.
The Georgia National Fair and
Agricenter is a safe fair. It is a
place people can feel comfortable
bringing their families. It is a very
family oriented fair,' said
Froehlich.
This year's fair will be high
lighted during its opening cere
monies Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. when the
Georgia National Fair turns on its
new fountain in the middle of the
main lake, located in front of the
Reaves Arena. It will spray high
in the air and colored lights will
dance in the spray.
'Something about water calms
people down,' said Froehlich.
The fountain's beauty will
entertain fairgoers, but that is not
its only purpose. According to
Froehlich, the fountain will aerate
the water, helping to keep the
water clean. This will be beneficial
to the pond's fish.
For additional lomfort to those
who have enjoyed several soft
drinks, glasses r.f lemonade, and
such, there is i new rest room
facility. It is located in the kiddie
ride section of the Midway.
'We now have two large banks
of rest rooms for the comfort of
our fairgoers Diaper changing
areas are in all rest rooms/ said
Froehlich.
'The Midway will have a large
hospitality tent for people to relax
in for short periods of time,' he
said.
Other added conveniences
include additional benches and
picnic tables placed throughout
the fairgrounds
In addition to the added rest
rooms, benches, and picnic tables,
the Fairgrounds will have more
lighted parking space available
than ever before.
'On the east side of the fair
grounds, we have added more
lighted parking space. It will be
able to accommodate up to 2,500
cars,' said Froehlich.
his will be useful for those cars
coming to the fairgrounds from
the new three lane road on the
east side of the Agricenter.
'The new Starbuck road which
goes from the Limerock Road and
Elko Road intersection will go into
the East Gate. It will ease the traf
fic tension greatly,' said Froehlich.
'Also, Hay Road will be paved
and open on the south side. Now
the Hay Road interchange will be

closed until March 2000, but the
road will be open,' Froehlich.
However, added benches, park
ing spaces, and picnic tables are
just the tip of the ice berg at the
Georgia National Fairgrounds
when comfort and convenience for
fairgoers is discussed.
The Fair will offer an array of
services to meet the needs of fair
goers. Services available include
free tram service for people park
ing in the outer areas to the admis
sion gate, free parking, stroller
rentals, lost and found area, first
aid, and pay phones.
'The fairgrounds is totally

accessible to handicapped,' said
Froehlich.
Safety is another area of con
cern for the Georgia National Fair.
According to Froehlich, 'Safety is
an important issue for us. Besides
our own fairgrounds security offi
cers, we will have additional help
from the Perry Police, the Georgia
State Patrol, and the Houston
County Sheriff's Department '
The final touches to die buildings
and grounds are being finished.
'We have completed all mainte
nance on our buildings. We've
repainted several bams, the rest
rooms, and some buildings. We
have installed glass doors on our
buildings to enable people walking
by to see inside at what is going on
inside,' noted Froehlich.
The grounds will be in excellent

ready for the fair,' he said
