“Insight On Eyesight”
The Mystery’ of Glaucoma
by Dr. J. Mathis Dixon,
Eyesight Associates
Although doctors continually
study and research the eye disease
called glaucoma, many unan
swered questions still exist. We
know that liquid in the eyes slowly
increases in pressure through the
years until it can damage the
’’wires” that transmit the pictures
seen by the eyes to the brain.
But we do not know why ...
...some people tolerate abnormally
high eye pressure better than
others.
...glaucoma affects blacks sooner
and often more aggressively
than whites.
...women experience more
glaucoma than men.
