Nov. 11 marks the 81st anniversary of
Armistice Day. which is now recognized as
Veteran's Day.
Eighty-one years ago on November 11,
1918 at the end of World War I, the follow
ing words were written:
“In Flanders Field the poppies blow
between the crosses, row on row, that
mark our place; and in the sky the larks
still bravely singing fly, scarce heard
amidst the guns below, take up our quar
rel with the foe, to you from failing hands
we through the torch-be yours to hold it
high.”

gis, Mayor Jim Worrall, Penny Ingram,
and Mattie Lou Bynum. Poppy Week in
Perry has been proclaimed for Nov. 7-13.
Veteran’s day is Nov. 11.
Not only is the poppy a representative of
Flander’s Field, but the many other places
where brave men have fought and died in
battle.
Penny Ingram. American Legion Post 24
Auxiliary president, said. “Wear a poppy as
a memorial to our war dead and help the
living help themselves. All proceeds
received are returned to the disabled veter

and in the Georgia War Veterans’ Home in
Milledgeville."
