Westfield junior quarterback
Bo Hart passed for 202 yards and
three touchdowns here Nov 5 as
the Westfield Hornets nailed
down second place in Georgia
Independent School Association
region 1 AAA with a 36-6 win over
the Windsor Knights.
The Hornets' defense canie up
with two goal-line stands and
John Curtiss Gibbs' second
blocked point after touchdown
try in as many weeks to higfiTigfil
the final regular season game for
both schools.
Westfield will now host John
Milledge Academy at the Hornets’
Nest Nov. 12 in the first round of
the GISA playoffs.
Hart hit Daniel Weir with a
four-yard pass to open the Hor
nets' first possession, but then
kept the team on the ground on a
10-play. 66-yard scoring drive
capped off by Jacob Walker's
22nd touchdown of the year with
4:45 left in the first quarter.
Will Holt s 27-yard run was
the big play in the drive, giving
Westfield a first-and-10 at the
Windsor 24-yard line. Walker
scored six plays later and Nate
Skinner tacked on the extra point
kick.
After Britt Fuller’s 18-yard
kickoff return gave Windsor the
ball at their own 37-yard line, the
Knights answered Westfield’s
touchdown with an eight-play
drive of their own. Blaine Hellwig
gave the Knights a first down at
the Westfield 48-yard line then
teamed with Sheldon Maddox for
another at the Hornets' 31.
Alter Hellwig and Sean Greer
each gained six yards. Hellwig
broke free for a 25-yard touch
down with just a half minute left
in the first quarter.
Gibbs came in from the Hor
nets' right side and blocked the
try for point after, leaving West
field with a 7-6 first quarter lead.
A Daniel Weir punt gave Wind
sor the ball back at their own 39-
yard line with 9:33 left in the half
and the Hornets holding to the 7-
6 lead. Hie Knights kept the ball
on the ground for 12 plays,
pounding out four first downs
behind Hellwig. Greer and Mad
dox. But with a Windsor first
and goal at the Westfield six-yard
line, the Hornets' defense stiff
ened as Joel Stevens, Golden
Goss and Cole Carter led a
charge that denied the Knights

the end zone when Carter
stopped Greer in his tracks at the
one-yard line on fourth-and-goal.
With momentum on their side,
the Hornets marched 99 yards in
just seven plays as Hart hit Weir
with a 64-yard scoring strike.
Weir outran the Windsor defense
down the left sidelines for the
score.
Skinner added the PAT and
the Hornets had a little breathing
room at 14-6. Don Walker recov
ered a Windsor fumble on the
kickoff with 40 seconds left, but
the Hornets weren’t able to con
vert it into points as time ran out
in the half.
Senior Cody Giles was

ing the halftime ceremonies,
receiving the crown from 1998
queen, Brandi Bazemore
After intermission, the Hor
nets did as they have now done
seven times in 10 games. They
scored on their first possession of
the second half. Only against
Tiftarea, Tattnall and Stratford
did the Hornets fail to do so.
The big play was a long Hart
pass completion. Alter getting the
ball at their own 14-yard line fol
lowing Windsor's kickoff, West
field got a first down at their 29
on runs by Holt, Walker and
Jones. Hart hit Walker for a 71-
yard score and Skinner's PAT
gave the Hornets a 21 -6 lead just
two minutes into the second half.
The Knights, who haven't
thrown the ball much, decided to
go to the air themselves on their
next possession. It turned out to
be an ill-advised choice as
Michael Giles got a hand on a Ric
Ellis' pass intended for Kevin
Dunn, and strong safety Kory
Kitchens raced ir. to pick off the
pass at the Windsor 36-yard line.
After 1 lart threw incomplete to
Ernest Greene, Holt and Walker
combined to pick up 11 yards for
a first down at the Windsor 25-
yard line. Chance Jones bolted
for 17 yards to the eight. Hart
connected with Weir for their sec
ond touchdown of the night, an
8-yarder that gave Westfield a 28-
6 lead after Skinner's point after
kick.
With the ball at their own 20
yard line, the Knights again
wanted to go to the air. Ellis
threw toward Kurt Thurmond at
the Windsor 30-yard line, but a
hard tackle by Greene jarred the
ball loose for an incompletion and
a 10-yard sack bv Carter ended

the possession.
After a 38-yard field goal
attempt by Skinner went just
wide to the left, Windsor took
over at their 20-yard line. High
lighted by a 36-vard Greer mn
Windsor was at the Westfield 35-
yard line.
A Windsor holding penalty
and a face mask call against
Westfield just as time expired in
the third quarter allowed the
Knights an untimed down at the
end of the quarlrr.
Windsor opened the fourth
period at the Westfield 16-yard
line. Staying on the ground, the
Knights used the 280-pound
Greer for three rushes into the
Westfield line.
