Westfield holds off Fullington 56-55 to even basketball record

After taking a 29-22 lead at
half-time, the Westfield Hor
nets had to hold off a Fulling
ton fourth quarter charge to
pick up their first Georgia Inde
pendent Schools Association
basketball win of the season.
The 56-55 victory helped
the Hornets even their record
at 1 -1. This was the first meet
ing between the two teams
since Westfield coach Duane
Hunter took over the reins fol
lowing a stint at Fullington.
Preston Etheridge and Josh
Thompson provided all of the
offense for Fullington over the
first three quarters, but in the
fourth, it was Rusty English
who ignited the Trojans.
With 6:04 left in the game,
English hit two from the foul
line to become the only Trojan
other than Etheridge and
Panther wrestlers win pair of matches

Perry wrestlers demolished
both Pike County and Macon
County Dec. 6 in a dual meet
hosted by the Panthers.
The Panther squad scored
66 points in both matchups;
holding Pike County to 16 and
Macon County to 18.
The wins, coupled with a win
last week over Northeast Macon,
upped their record to 3-1.
AJ Winchester (135) and Peter
Noel (171) both won in exhibition
matches. The win gave Noel a 4-
1 individual record.
Kelvin Whitfield (215)
improved his season record to
3-1 by winning both his
matches by pins.
Frankie Herring (112).
Demteruis Williams (145) and
Markeith Whitehead (160) also
improved their records to 3-1.

three-pointer with 4:15 left to
tie the game at 43-all.
With 2:48 left. Westfield’s
Daniel Weir and Fullington’s
Joseph Speight exchanged
baskets, with the Trojans still
owning a three-point lead. But
thirty seconds later, Westfield’s
Will Holt tied the game with a
three-pointer before Etheridge
and Weir exchanged baskets,
Weir’s coming with 1:07 left to
tie the game at 52-52.
After the Trojans turned the
bail over with 46 seconds left,
Westfield took a time out, and
with 30 seconds left, Ernest
Greene gave Westfield a 54-52
lead. Will Sexton iced the
game with a steal and a basket
with 10 seconds left.
Etheridge's three-pointer at
the buzzer cut the final margin
to 56-55.
Ernest Howard (119) won eas
ily both keeping their unde
feated records.
Two first-year wrestlers had
big nights including Kyle Pad
gett (140) whose win against
Pike County was his first
match as a Panther.
Freshman Loren Noel (103),
a member of the varsity squad,
evened up his record at 2-2.
Noel said after his win that
he is enjoying his first year on
the squad and praised Coach
Dwayne Dimsdale for encour
aging his participation.
"Coach Dimsdale talked to
me about the wrestling pro
gram and I decided to come
out for it. He is really good
with the new guys, showing us
techniques and moves and
helping us," Noel said.
Perry is in the West Laurens
invitational Dec. 10-11.
The Westfield teams will*
play at Tiftarea Dec 11, with a
boys B game scheduled to
begin at 5 p.m.
The varsity teams will then
participate in the Sherwood
