Bird captures thriller at Cordele
By Marie Clark
Cordele Speedway
CORDELE lt was an
action-packed night of racing
with a lot of side-by-side rac
ing and numerous challenges
for the lead Saturday at
Cordele Speedway.
In by far one of the best
races this year Cairo’s
Vincent Williams took the
lead at the start of the Pure
Stock feature with
Andersonville’s Jason Price
close on his bumper and the
first six cars bumper-to
bumper and door-to-door for
the entire feature event.
As the cars came around for
the second lap, Doerun’s
Bobby Jackson made his way
past fellow resident Jordan
Hembrie with Macon’s Arty
Bird following close behind
and making the same pass.

involved grabbing my very
sore elbow, which invoked a
response of my trying to
whack him over the head
with a socket wrench.
He diagnosed me with pos
sible cellulitis, which in med
ical terms means, “a disease
that Nick does not have.” I
could have gone in there
with a harpoon sticking in
my elbow and still been diag
nosed with “cellulitis.”
Since he wasn’t sure what
it was, he scheduled a doc
tor’s appointment for me.
The next morning at the
doctor’s office, I was waiting
to be called when I saw Mike
walking around. I made my
way back into the physical
therapy section, where other
trainers were doing impor
tant rehab exercises with
their patients.
Mike was (I’m not making
this up) changing air condi
tioning filters. Granted, this
does not have anything to do
with the plot of the column,
but like I said before, I try to
get my in cheap shots on him
when I can.
The doctor decided that
the sore was a brown recluse
bite and prescribed some
antibiotics.
Two days later, when the
swelling did not subside, he

three caution, Williams held
the lead and the battle was on
for third through sixth as
Bird was moving to the front
on the outside.
From there the fans got
their monies worth as there
was a lot of beating and bang
ing among the top six cars of
Williams, Bird, Price, Merle
Diem Bobby Jackson and
Billy Nipper.
The six swapped places sev
eral times over the next 10
laps with Bird eventually
coming out on top.
The rest of the finishing
order got jumbled after Price

disqualified.

put me on some stronger
stuff called “Augmentin.”
If I am not mistaken, this
is the same type stuff the
CIA gives to its suspects
when they refuse to talk:
“Who are you working for?
Maybe a stronger dose of
Augmentin will make you
talk.”
I ultimately had to take
the medicine, even though
my body was sending signals
in the form of migraines
advising against.
Since the condition of my
elbow was pretty bad, I was
told that the only way I
would be able to play on
Friday night would be to
have Mike clean it before the
game. Only I was left out of
the loop about a little secret.
It seems that “have Mike
clean it” was code for “have
Mike remove a chunk of
Nick’s elbow while Nick
simultaneously tries to bop
Mike in the nose with a golf
club.”
Either that or Mike was
doing unnecessary surgery
in order to get revenge for
previous things I’ve written
about him.
When we arrived at the
game, Mike had to wrap up
my arm. “Wrap up” does not
begin to describe all the
padding I had on my elbow.

In regard to the state

played seven games in the
first and nine in the second.
“In both they had to come
back through the loser’s
bracket to win,” said
Harman.

did not want to come back on
Sunday to tear down his race
car. The final finishing order
was: Bird for the second
week in a row followed by

Penny Templeton and Craig
Shiver.
In the other racing brack

the Enduro feature, while

It would have been able to
ward off major nuclear

I am thankful to say that
besides a hole in my elbow,
there were no major compli

encounter with nature.
If you see me on the street
though, be sure to make a
point to come up and firmly
grab my right elbow.

WARNER ROBINS
Charity golf tournaments
are very popular in Houston
County.
It’s a great way to raise
awareness and funds.
Golf courses typically
reduce their rates in order
to accommodate the various
groups. The prices range
from S3O to S2OO per person
in our area.
They are usually one day,
18-hole events. The format
is typically a four-person
scramble, a team event,
which allows for a wide
range of playing abilities.
Getting people together
for a good cause is a wonder
ful thing.
I recently played in a ben
efit for a young girl who had
lost her leg in a lawnmower
accident.
Her name is Jordan
Kozloski. Her parents, Mike
and Sandy, organized a great
event at the Landings Golf
Club.
It included 18 holes of
golf, dinner and prizes. The
gift was truly mine for hav
ing been invited.

In the Vintage Modified

Current points leader,
Regie Jones, was back on top
this weekend in the Pure
Stock division.
With the green flag wav
ing, Jones lost the battle for
the lead in turn one as Karl
Willard pulled ahead to show
the way. Jones, however, kept
the battle alive and it paid off
on lap three as he snagged
the lead from Willard.
Kenny Bryant and Curtis
Moss kept up the chase for
the leaders throughout the
race, but it was of no use as
Jones continued to gain valu
able ground. At the end of 15
laps, Jones scored the win as
Willard and Bryant finished
second and third. Moss
placed fourth as Mia

his bumper for the lead.
Cartwright showed no signs
of giving up during the 15-lap
feature event, but Floyd and
Micheal Dooley hung close

Cartwright. With the check

Donnie Huddleston finished

In Super Street action,
Jordy Nipper let no one
