When it comes
to football, I'm
no 'recluse'
I had a good idea for
today’s column. It was
going to be about what
it felt like not to play in a
football game. Fortunately
for me (but unfortunately
for the column), I was able
to play. -
You see, I was bitten by a
brown recluse spider last
week and it was doubtful as
to whether or not I would be
able to play. The only thing
good that came out of the
whole event was that I have
gained a great new respect
for doctors and have sworn
off ever making fun of them.
However, athletic trainers
are not exempt from this;
I’ll make fun of our trainer,
Mike Edgar, repeatedly,
including several times in
this column.
If you’re not familiar with
brown recluses, let me give
you a little background
information on them. They
are a member of the
Arachnids, which comes
from the words Arach,
meaning “creatures” and
Nids, meaning “that are
unnecessarily aggravating.”
Also falling into this catego
ry are wasps, bees, fresh
men, and Dick Vitale.
My ordeal began on
Monday, which was when I
first became sore. I went to
Mike for him to do some
thing about it, thinking it
was only a rash of some sort
on my elbow. He did some
preliminary tests that

0 lead midway through the
second quarter.
Tiftarea would not be
kept down, however.
Utilizing their , spread
offensive attack they
tossed a 65-yard touch
down pass to draw within
in a touchdown at the half.
“One of our safeties
broke on the ball and tried
to make a play,” Lancer
head coach Todd Whetsel
said. “The safety did what
he should have done and
played real aggressive.”
Tiftarea scored another
touchdown with a minute
and a half remaining in the
