December 17, 1822. J
IVJOTICE is given id those who claim
1 i land in this state under Head-Right
Warrants, that by an act passed at the
present session ol the Legislature, you
are lorever precluded from the expecta
tion of further extension, you having
drained the cup of indulgent e to its last
drop; so that if they do not pass their
lands into grants by the Bth day of No
vember next, they will revert to, and
become the property of the slate, and
consequently subject to be surveyed, or
taken up by any person who may be in
duced to do so. You are now, 1 presume,
in possession of the means of discharging"
the fees of office, arising from the pro
ceeds of your present crops, and you may
not be so at the last pinch next fall—
therefore, I advise you, not to delay a mo
mmil. The fortunate drawers in the 3d
lottery, that it the lottery preceding the
last, as well as thoje who have drawn
1 rizes iu the 4th or last lottery, may be
pushing lorwaid their grants next ses
sion, lest the Legislature should not.cdh
elude on a continued extension of the
term allowed to them.—This you will
readily perceive, must produce a great
influx and no overwhelming pressure of
business, so that I could not, even with -
the aid of twenty assistants, which I am!
not disposed to employ in any exigency,
meet the applications at that lime, so as |
to give timely relief. If yoii wish to a-;
void the expense of travelling to the Seat |
of Government, you may readily obtain
your grams by enclosing to me by mail,
or private conveyance, §4 25 for all
grants under 500 acres, and for all grants
over 500 and not exceeding 1000 acres,
tbe sum of $7 50. The grants will be
promptly attended to, and the change,
tfany, will be found in the envelope on
the receipt of your grant or grants. For
your further information, you will re
member that no money is received in the
Stole Treasury, except Uie bills of the
State Bank, Planters Bank, Merchant’s
Bank of Augusta, the Darien Rank, and
the State Bank of Sonth-Caroliua, $ 1
on the, small grants and $2 on the largest
grants; North-Carolina State bills will
he received by the slate officers for their
fees, and hills of one or two unchartered
banks, say Sanford’s, Bullock Si Wells’
in small sums occasionally. Com ty Sur
veyors are requested to transmit, with
out delay, all plats which remain in their
