* About a week ago, some of the fanatical

it appears that the “ God of order” dircßcd
him to walk along the ftrect, NAKED !
Accordingly, at one end of the, tbtvn he
striped hirafelf entire, and with his cloths
over otic arm, his bat in the other hand, he
led his horfo all the way, doWn main ftrect;
crying ia he; went along, ** fToe, woe,

As soon as he got to the woods, he again
put no his cloaifis, when he was overtaken
and brought back, before a magnate.
After fame detention, (in which he gloried,
as f.iffirlflg pirftcutioh like the apostles of
old) he was allowed to go his way. In
juftifleation of his strange conduft, he cited
the example of the prophet Jfaiah ; (20. 2.

« Old things are passed away ; all thing#
are become neflr.'*—But no doilbt, his flexi

For the CHRONICLE.
Mr. Printer,
1 WHEN fallacious reports arc circulating
against the minority of the last extra ftflion
of the Legiflaturc ; and when that body arc
much villified, it is a duty incumbent on me,
as a good citi/en, to place things in a proper
light, by just and honeff representations.
Ssnfible however, lam, that a boundless
loose to spleen, (envious in itfelf) will add
lie to lie, and be prevalent and predomi
nant at the prefer.t day.
I was a daily vifttor to both branches of
the Legiflaturc, and observed the conduft
of our (members. I took notice of a bill to
be entitled “ An ad to difpofc of and dis
tribute the late celffon of lands obtained
from the Creek Nation, by the United
States; iri a treaty concluded at the City of
Wafliingroh, bn tKe fourteenth day of No
vember, one thousand eight handred and
five," and heard the arguments for and a.
gainft—Jackson was not Client— l retired
to my rest, and in a profound deep I dreamed
that *vr had dtfeharged our just debts—l
thanked my Gad—but alas! it was but
vilionary—all a phantorfl.
Georgians attend ! fiutkites particularly,
of which I ani one The State owes a
large debt, between two and three millions
of dollars , which mujl be paid. Is it pofli
ble that you can be gulled by faying that
the fa|cs of the Fractional Surveys will pay
them?*By noirfcans; and even admitting
the fame to be adequate to that dcfirable
purpose, we (hauld (till be like a poor abject
wretch, wlio worked all day for nis fupportj
and spent it at night.
I will here only call for the attention of
his Excellency’s raeffage relative to vC’hat
might be donei,
Burkites ! WHat has Jackson dobc, but
that as an honest, upright, Patriotic States
man ? A man (not a mufhroon, but one of
tenyears (landing) whom you have tried,
weighed in the fcalcs and found not wanting.
Where is the wretch who dare to fay er
even infer that Jackson mattifeftid a difpo
fftion in that House, to (ell our lands ? Men
may fay a little, and infer a great deal, and
thereby lead the ignorant to believe a mem
ber has infringed on his rights: that this
has bean the case since the last fitting of the
legiflaturc I wiii not pretend to fay, but
really I fear it has.
Burkites ! I can allure you that Jackson’s
wilh was to pay our debt#; he wi(hed the
land drawn for, but to come on such terms
to the fortunate drapers, agreeably to the
quality, as would be a revenue; and not an
expense; ; L
There is a great noise made about the
dollars due us by the United
States t true, we have that amount due us;
but mark ye ; when, where, or in what
manner is that debt to be paid to us ? Per
haps the President may load a pared of wag.
gons bye and bye, and fend it cn ; but 1 am
not inclined to think so.
It appears more rational to me, that the
policy of the U. States will be, to keep the
money in their ihx'n hands, for the ufc of
this State, to defray her quota ofexpemes,
in case wc (hould be amerced in.wtfr.’ Your
debt is enormous, and a great part, if not
all, oh intcrefl. Knave# will perhaps in.
form you that the (late cannot be sued : be.
lieve them if you pleafc, but my Ek tor it
you’ll be doubly taxed, and your children
and mine pay for the balance.
