Secretary of State—Surveyor-General.
.Ifessrs. Editors ; Our new State Constitution
-ays “There shall be a Secretary of State, a
Comptroller-General, a Treasurer and Sur
veyor-General elected by the General Assem
bly. * * * The General Assembly way
at any time consoliaate any tiro of these offices,
and require all the duties to be discharged by one
officer."
This is a good provision, and as the offices
: Secretary of State and Surveyor-General
are mere sinecures, there can be no doubt but
ihe next Legislature will consolidate the offices
and re titre two officers to discharge the du
lies of all. I will not now, when every dime
taken in tales from the pockets of the people
is so sensibly felt, eloj to argue the propriety
and justice of such a law All tax-payers will
readily see it.
If it were generally known that the next
General Assembly would pass such a law, it
might, and probably would, save, to a number
of gentlemen, the time and expense of a visit
to Milledgeville.
please give this a place in your columns,
call the attention of your readers to it, and
