ACADEMY OF RICHMOND COUNTY.
raUIE Trustees of this institution are happy to
B have it in their power to slate, that both the
principal Academy in Augusta, and the branch at
Summerville, have resumed their exercises, under
the management of Teachers who have the full
confidence of the Trustees, and who, they are sa
tisfied, are fully entitled to that of the public.
Mr. Ernenputsch, the Rector of the Academy,
already favorably known to the community, has
charge of the Classical department and all the
branches of education requisite for admission to
our best Colleges. His attainments as a scholar
and success in imparting useful knowledge, emi
nently qualify him for the discharge of the im
portant duties of his station.
Mr. Ring, the principal English Teacher, re
cently engaged by the Board, comes with the high
est recommendations as to character, talents, lite
rary attainments and skill in teaching, and the
Trustees fee 1 assured that he will sustain the re
putation which led to his selection.
The branch of the Academy at Summerville is
under the immediate management of Mr. Frank
lin George, a gentleman of experience in teach
ing, and highly recommended. The advantage of
the location of this branch of the Academy in one
of the most healthful neighborhoods in the State,
and sufficiently remote from the unfavorable in
fluence of a crowded town, arc too well known to
need comment.
On the whole, the Board confidently recommend
to the public the principal Academy and the Branch
at Summerville, as being on a better footing than
they have heretofore been, and promising great
usefulness to those who may avail themselves of
the advantages which they offer.

philosophical principles upon which they are
compoun Jed, and upon which they consequently

The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases ol every form and description. Their
first operation is to loosen from the coals ol the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and
crudities eon- tantiy settling around them ; ana to
remove the hardened fasces which collect
convolustons of the smallest intestines. Other
medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave
such collected masses behind as to produce habitu
al costiveness with ell its train ofevils. or in a sud
den d.arrhoea, wilh its eminent dangers. This tact
is well known to all regular anatomists, who ex
amine the human bowels after death ; and heme
the prejudice of those well informed men against

i rorul effect of the Life Medicines is to cleanse the
! kidneys and the bladder, and by this means, the
j liver and the lungs, the healthful action of which
j entirely' depends upon the regularity’ of the urinary
organs. The blocd, which lakes its red color from
the agency of the liver and the lungs before it
passes intollie hea t, being thus purified by them
and nourished by food coining from a clean siom
ach, courses freely thiongh the veins, renews every
part of the system, and triumphantly mounts the
banner of health in the blooming cheek.
Moffat’s Vegetable Life Medicines have been
thoroughly attested, and pronounced a sovereign
remedy for Dyspepsia, Flatulency, Palpitation ot
the Heart, Loss of Appetite, lleart-bnrn and Head
ache, Restlessness, 111-temper, Anxiety, Languor

Colds and influenza and various other complaints
which afflict the human frame. Jn fever and
ague, particularly, the Life Medicines have been
most eminently successful; so much so that in the

All that Mr. Moffat requires of his patient is

in their lavor, that be hopes to gain credit, it is

Radical Cure ol Hernia or Rupture, by Hr.
Chase’s Improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
TjMHE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
| store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson &Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by’ means of these
uslly celebrated instruments. He has now used
them fur nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly’ distressing and dangerous
affection, by- the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ot the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
| committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those wiio wear other
trusses; trials that would be imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terras, the in
i' struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
| the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
Highest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
I Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
j Personsfrom a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. 'The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous

The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable

DR. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and
docs not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts are made
known to the faculty’, or any r one else that may

I Noith has advertised a Tomato Pill, purportingtc

j than for one to offer meal from the corn stalk, to
say notiiing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by’ their use, that they are allthat they
profess to be, and w r ill do for othcis what they
have done for such as mav have used them ; as
.his is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will
doubtless be valuable information to families to
know that the Yellow' are just doubly as valuable
as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much
of the hapaline, 01 active principle, and when used
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the
system in much better condition than the other
kind ; many will recollect with what trembling
anxiety calomel has been given to children, and
how they’ then wished for a substitute. It has
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was it
ascertained that .aey contained alterative and diu
retic properties. The Faculty embrace and use
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason that
they know what it is .Were it a patent mystery,
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as they
justly do the one thousand and one cure-alls of the
day'. If you wish to cleanse the system with a
mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomato
Pill, of which a supply, we learn, will soon be in
his city. We ali know something aoout inis,

y This prize obtains its own name from the certain
success hich has attended it through all of its

Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst

- success throughout his two tribes. Its known and

incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,

at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “ait of its com
' position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
, free to use it in their respective tribes, which
, places it in the hands of every Indian who rely l '
. with, 1 may say, religious confidence on its cura

Below is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed given by Wabenoshe, to
, 31. Cheveret, when he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time ,
which is consumed in preparing the article for im

Dr. Peters —Dear Sir, By requestor your agent,
Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the
j almost miraculous effects of your piPs ; and I would
i add, that you may make use ol them,in connection
, with my name, in any mariner you deem proper, I
| speak of their merits from experience,as 1 and my
family have taken upwards ol thirty boxes in three
years ; and so great a:-e the benefits we have receiv
ed from them in general, that 1 would rather pur
chase them at ten dollars a box than have my house
without them. 1 will not enumerate the afflictions
they ha ve relieved us of; but 1 can assure you they
were many, and of very opposite natures, which
has fully proved to me that your medicine isasirn
; pie purifier of the system, and therefore equally
, the enemy of every disease. I will mention one
: case. 1 have a sister who had been for a iong pe
; riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and
was brought by it to the very verge of the grate.
She was attended by the most eminent physicians
that money could procure •, but all their efforts to
restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer
ings were fruitless ; and accordingly,we all consid
ered her immediate death as inevitable. By good
fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex
pecting every day to be her last, your pills were
introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal
pable were their effects that three doses visibly re
lieved her, and in loss than three months she was
perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all
who were witness of it, (but more especially the
suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to
miraculous; and yet 1 could mention many more
of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills
were equally successful in rescuing the patients
from the jaws of death. Need 1 add that the popu-
I lardy of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in
, this section of the country ? But this I presume
i v r ou know from the immense quantity you dispose
: of, 1 may mention, however, that notwithstanding
| its general use, 1 never heard an individual complain
of its eifects. My residence is 12 miles from Bal
j cigh, on the road to Fayetteville. 1 am, with sen
timents of regard, your üb't servant.

To Dr. Peters, —Sir—For upward' of fifteen
