LOUIS OFFON GOELICKE, j
of Germany, i
The Greatest of Human Benefactors *
Citizens of North and South America,
To Louis Offon Goelicke, M. D., of Germany,
[Europe,] belongs the imperishable honor of adding
a new and precious doctrine to the science of medi
cine —a doctrine which, though vehemently opposed
y- many oi the faculty, (of Which he is a vaiGa >le
member,) lie proves to be as well founded in truth
as any doctrine of Holy W lit — a doctrine, upon the
verity of which are suspended the lives of millions
of our race, and which he boldly cha lenses his op
posers to refute, viz: Consumption is a disease al
ways occasioned by a disordered state of Vis Vitae
(or Life Principle] of the human body: QTj-often
secretly lurking in the system for years before
here is the least complaint of the Lungs
which may be as certainly, though not so quUkly ,
cur**d, as a common co dor a simple headache, j An
invaluably precious doctrine this, as d imparts an
important lesson to the apparently healthy of«both
sexes, leaching them that this insidious foe'jmuj
be an unobserved inmate of their clayey ho« s”
even while they imagine themselves secure 'Torn
ts attacks, teaching them thvXt he great secret intUs
att of preserving he illh is to pluck out the disease
when in the blade, and not wait till the full grown
ear. >
Tins illustrious benefactor of man is also entitled
to yom unfeigned gratitude, and the gratitude of a
world, for thfe invention of his mate! less Sanative,
—whose healing hat may justly claim for it such a
title, since it has so signally triumphed over our
great common enemy, j Consumption, botn in
the first and last stages, —a medicine which has
thoroughly filled the vacuum in the Materia Mctiica,
and thereby proved itself the l> _/ > Conqueror of Phy
sic wn- v ,Go —a medicine, so, which all mankind
will have Abundant cause to bless the benencent
hind of a kind Providence,—a medicine whose
wondrous virtues have been so glowingly pourtray
ed even by sirne of our clergy, in their pastoral
visits to tee sick chamber ; by which means iliey
often become the happy instruments of changing de
sponding into hope, sickness into health, and sad
of friends into joyfulness

which, thougn designed a> a remedy for consump
tion solely, is possessed ol a mysterious influence
over many diseases of the human system—a Medi

are daily witnessing its astonishing cures of [many

A rertificate from three members of the Ms iical
Profession m Germany, in Europe.
We, the undersigned, practitioners of medicine
in Germany, are well aware that, by our course,
we may forfeit the friendship of some of the .facul
ty , but not of its bcuevo.ent members, who aiiu un
influenced by se.fish motives. Though we snail
refrain fiom an expression of our opinion, cither
of the soundness or unsoundness of Dr. t.o< ivk’s
new doctrine, we are happy to say that we ,deem
his Sanative too valuable not to be generally
known —for what our eyes behold and ouj ears
hoar, we must believe. ■
We Hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis’Offen
Goelic k first came before the German public, as
the pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a
new medicine, we held him in the highest con
tempt, believing and openly pronouncing him to be
a base impostor d the prince of quacks. But, on
hearing so much said about the Sanative, aga-.ns it
ad tor it, we were induced, irom motives oi cuvi
sit merely, to make trial of its reputed virtues
upon a number of our most hopeless patients:-, and
wo now deem it our bounden duty (even hi the
expense of self-interest publicly to acknowledge
its efficacy in curing not only consumption, but
other fearful maladies, which we have heretofore
believed to be incurable. Our contempt for the
discoverer of this medicine was at once swallowed
up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected
results; and, as amends for our abuse of hi in, we
do frankly confess to the world, that we behove
him a philanthropist, who does honor to the profes
sii n, and to our country, which gave him birth.
The recent adoption of this medicine into some
0 our European hospitals, is a sufficient guaranty
1 hat it perfor ms ail promises. It needed not our
estimoay, for wherever it is used it is its own best

COSBY’S DYSPEPTIC
BITTERS
A Late and Valuable Discovery.
FkRHAPb there is tioiliing .■no’'’ cnjcjlated to
disgust me public eye than the innumerable
advertisements of nostrums that are consia.illy ap
pearing in the public prints. All are ready io ex
claim, our souls are sick, our ears are pained with
every day’s reports of ills and specifics This slate
of the public mind would seem to forbid any person
of delicate mind Irorn sending forth any new dis
co’-ones in medicine, to the trial of the public.—
Still, motives ol delu acy should not prevent us from
making known real c iscovenes, which we are con
fident will benefit our fellow men. This ifiiler
consideration has prompted ihe author ot these bit
ters to make them known. He knows they are high
ly efficacious, for he himself, his wife, and many
friends, have given nem a thorough trial. He was
himself a confirmed dyspeptic,so much, that even
hi-s re* ollection was gone. By using these bitters
he has been restorer, to health. Mrs. Cosby was
troubled for many years, but was restored to health
by the use ot these hitters. This has been the case
with many ol fits In nds. Mr. Cosby in sending
forth tills advertisement, addresses those who know
him. He has been for many years a resident ol

in ihe stomach from food, lossol appetite, flatulen

side, shortness ol breath, lassitude, gene.al weak

Radical Cure oi Henna or Rupture, by Dr.
Chase’s improved Surgeons’ Trusses.
rgMiE subscriber las opened an office, at the Drug
Ik store of Messrs. J. J. Robertson 6c Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
ustly celebrated instruments. He has now used
them for nearly’ a year, and, didnotdelicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
a dec lion, hy the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a fairway of being entirely re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ot the Philadelphia Medical Society on the
Radical l ure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
arc usually ventured upon by those who wearcthec
trusses; trials that would he imprudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ 'The committee are induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms the in
struments of Dr. Chase lo the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The fohowing is Irom tiie Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
3’et invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and all ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate.from
ble person, of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments arc of aii sizes, and applicable
to every variety oi reducibl* rupture.

ff HIS incomparable and invaluable remedy so

success in the Canadas for the last 30 years;, ap

a charm, for the relief and radical cure of a certain
common and disagreeable ‘-ills the flesh is heir to.”
This prize - Mains its own name from the certain
sufcc«Se- hich has attended it through all of its
c cumstances, namely, “five days,”—the
same su .ess which followed it in a typrtbern lati
tude still obtains in a more .Southern. The formula
or recipe was obtained at great expense, intrigue
and hazard by M. Cheveres, from the celebrated
Indian Chief Wabenothe, or Great Moon, whilst
he, with others was pursuing the lucrative Fur bu
siness in the North-west with the Indians.—
Wabenoshe prized highly and use it with invariable
success throughout his two tribes. Its known and
valued virtues have already enriched to an almost
incredible extent the children of this warlike prince,
not only by actual sale of the article itself to in
dividuals, but by parting with copies of hi~ receipt
at enormous prices to the Chief of every tribe of
Indians in America, with a solemn promise to the
Great Spirit, never to divulge the “art of its com
position until he sleeps with his fathers,” although
free to use it in their respective tribes, which
places it in the hands of every Indian who rely
with, 1 may say’, religious confidence on its cura
ble powers
Belo w is a copy of the translation as near as it can
be anglisized of the deed gt>on by Wabenoshe, to
M. Cheveret, wben he purchased the original recipe,
and had twice assisted the Chief himself through
the tedious manipulatory process of manufacture.
Few white men would credit the length of time
which is consumed in preparing the article for im
mediate use.

This Medicine,! warrrnt by this publication,un
der a penally of $5,000, not to contain one parti
cle of corrosive preparation. It is purely vegata
bic in its essences. Its first and prominent virtue
is to subdue every vestige of inllamation, and then
acts mildly and copiously as a diuretic ; thereby
holding within itself, every requisite virtue, for
the subduction of this loathsome malady—and ev
ery regular graduate in medicine, will sustain the
assertion, that copious diuresis and reduction of in
flation, are the only two things necessary to effect
a sound and radical cure
The most peculiar virtue of the “Cinq Jours,”
is in this, that wherever it alone lias been used to
affect a cure, none of those tenacious and disagree •
able consequences which almost invariably’ results
from the sudden cure of Gonorrhoea, have been
known to obtain such as stricture, hernia, humoi
alis, incontinence, and a swarm of other of the
mos. loathsome, perplexing, and disagreeable dis
eases, consequent upon erroneous diagnosis and
treatment of Gonorrhoea.
Those affected are requested to call and try for
themselves. If the prescriptions are we.l follow

returned.
