dirediou of Major Brown, in honor of the
new Governor.
The President, &c. tbeu retired in the lame
order, except the Goveruor being on the
right, and the late Goveruor on the left.
' When arrived at the State House, the late
Governor conducted his Excellency to the of
fice of the Secretary of the Executive, and
delivered up the lame' to his charge dnd direc
tion ; aud eleven can son were djfcharged in
honor ot the Goveruor going out of oifice. *
The committees having recondufted in tike
manner, the ceremony ended ; and We are
lpappy to add, that the whole was conducted
with harmony, with dignity, and with pub
lic fati&fadiou.
His Excellency the Governor has been
pleased to appoint James Meriwether and
William Urquliah, Elqrs. Secretaries to the
Executive Department.
By a perfou jult arrived from the Cherokee
nation, we are informed that a circular let
ter had been received in that nationlfom Mr.
M'Gillivray, iufpi.miug them that the treaty
with the United States had broke off at present

whom he thought unacquainted with. Indian
