A Dabiko Attempt at Robbebt,—
Yesterday morning, about 10 o’clock, two
tbievea made an attempt to rob tbo safe

at the corner of Broad and Marietta
streets.
Mr. Kellam, the polite nnd efficient
clerk in that well regulated establishment,
was alone in tho office—all other persons
happening, at the time, to bo out. Thief
No. 1 entered tbo office at the front door,
on Marietta street, and engaged Mr. K.
in a business conversation—inquiring the
terms upon which be could have bis life
insured. While this was going on, thief
No. 2 cautiously crept into the back part
of the office, through the aide door, on
Broad street, went behind the counter,
and entered tbe vault, which waa stand
ing open—all this entirely unobserved.
Mr. Kellam heard a paper rattle, and
looking, saw tbe intruder in the vault,
trying to put a large envelope, which
contained some papers, into the breast
pocket of hia coat The thief, seeing he
was discovered, let the papers fall on tbe
floor. Mr. K. ran to him, seized him by
the collar, and led him ont from tho
counter. The two thieves and Mr. Kel-
lam wore the only persons in the office.
Tbe latter began to look about for some
way to secure them. While trying to
look and secure tbe front door, thief No.
2 made a break for tbo back door. Mr.
K. pursued him to the street, but recol
lecting tbat thief No. 1 was in tbo office
alone, ho went back, bnt fonnd him es
caping at the front door. He then ran
to the back door, but thief No. 2 was no
where in sight, t He suddenly disappear
ed, and no one win on his traok. In thia
way the daring thieves, who attempted
the bold exploit of robbing tho Tault of
the Company in brood daylight, escaped.
