THE CAPITOL.
After tUo turbulency of Monday’* *f-
fairs, and the laborious sessions of both
honses stretching to the brink of Tuesday,
it is not strange that the members should
bare indulged in a little relaxation yes
terday, and made one session answer for
all day. Perhaps more business was
transacted on Monday than was ever
transacted in one day by any .previous
Legislature. Laws were made with
lightning dispatch, and were approved by
Conley with as much expedition as if he
had feared the Assembly would go home
before he oonld finish signing the billn
Yesterday things were taken more
coolly. There seemed to be a dealer
understanding of the situation. The
Democrats of both branches had much

It is a matter of regret that rebellions
action on the part of the officiating Ex
ecutive prevents the public from seeing
the “ old flag" floating from the staff on
the State.Hoote. Conley has ooncluded
to
“ Furl that Banner, for ’tie weary,*'

and laid it away, ont of the sight of the
populace. The people may look and
long, but they cannot “see by the dawn’s
esrly light,” “ the flag of the freo hearts'
only borne,’ 1 and are deprived of the ex
altation of feeling “freedom’s soil be
neath oar feet,” and, at the samo time,
witnessing "freedom's banner waving o’er
ns.” It was unkind of Conley to aet so

■A-The Louisville Commercial sincerely
regrets its eriticism upon Sonthernwritere
which recently appeared in the New
York Tribune. The Commercial is prob
ably unaware that the articles in question
were not unprovoked; as the South has
persistently refused to buy What I Kirns

HP* The Washington correspondent
of the Savannah Nests telegraphs as fol
lows; "A careful oanvess of the Senate
leads to the belief that even if the Com
mittee on Elections shonld report in fa
vor of Blodgett, he will be rejected by a
two-thirds vote. But it is not thought
the Committee will report in hie favor.
Ont of the seven Senators who compose
the Committee, five, if not six, are con
sidered against Blodgett and in favor of
Norwood. However, the Committee bae
not taken the matter np, and will not be
fore the last of next week. In tho mean
time, Mr. Norwood is busy preparing a
convincing argument on the question,
which will be printed and distributed
among the Senators on Monday. Mr.
Norwood and his friends feel very con
fident of the result ” The same writer,
in a subsequent dispatch to the Feus,
•ays: “Duringthe first session of the
present Congress, lira members of the
Senate Committee on Eleotiona, who
were favonble to the admission of Foster
Blodgett, proposed, as a compromise,
that he be admitted on his credentials,
with the understanding that the charges
against him should subsequently be in
vestigated, and, if substantiated, that he
should be expelled. But the opposition
declined the compromise, having no faith
in Administration promises, and there
the matter rested. It is the opinion of a
prominentBepoblican Senator, expressed
to your correspondent to-night, that
Blodgett's oonnectioa with the Bullock-
Kimball Ring in robbing the people of
Georgia, has. entirely destroyed the
little chance be ever had for the admla-
tion to a seat hr tbp 8eeatp.” Tims, we
see the ohunecs of the “Augusta Mink”

fully less,” sad the probability is, that

GEORGIA MATTERS.
A earn tier of Swedish immigrate, for
Monroe ooanty, are erpected to arrive in
Office Statu Aohicui.tciial Society,
Atlanta, Ga., 13thDec., 1871.
7'o the County Agricultural Societies of
Georgia:
1. The officers end members of County
Agricultural Societies, are hereby noti
fied that the First seini-Annual Conven
tion of 1872, will meet in the city of Sa
vannah, on Thursday, the 22d day of
February, at 10 o’clock, A. u.
2. Each County Society is entitled to
throe delegates. These delegates should
ho elected as early as practicable by the
Societies in public meeting, anu the
names sent to the Secretary's office, at
Atlanta, in order to insure the receipt of
railroad tickets in due time. Tnese
tickets most first issue from the Secreta
ry's offioe, with the names of delegates
inserted, and then sent to the Railroad
Superintendent for signature. This
routine requires time, and makes prompt
action by the County Societies impor
tant In no instance will tickets in
blank be issued.
3. Delegatee elected to the February
Convention nnder the Constitution, are
elected lor the year, and botvo in the
Fall or August Convention, and in any
oall sessions ot the year.
A Delegates will be missed by the rail
roads free both trays. They will be re
quired to go by the most direct routes;
and np applications lor tickets to vary
the route lor personal convenience or
business will be entertained. The fre
quent applications heretofore for such
tickets make this notice necessary. The
extraordinary privilege of a free passage
both ways being granted alone to dele
gates ot the Agricultural Conventions,
must, in every way, os a matter of justice
to the railroads, be carefully guarded
against abuse.
5. The approaching session will bo,
perhaps, the most important yet held.
The whole constitution or fundamental
law of the Society will bo before tho Con
vention for alteration or amendment
The disposition of the land script for an
agricultural oollege will probably be com
mitted to the State Agricultural Society.
This will give interest and importance to
its action; and for these reasons, the
ooanty societies should send their ablest
representatives—representatives who ere
intimately identified with the tillage of
the soil
6. County Societies which have not
reported a list of their members, and the
Societies which may be organized is
oonnties where none now exist, are urged
to send np to the office at Atlanta with
their eleetion returns—a complete list of
their officers end members.
7. Weekly and looal papers which have
heretofore extended such valuable aid to
the labors of this office, end to the ob-
eots, generally, of the State Agricultural
Society, are requested to publish this
notice, and call special attention to the
