Wo refer tho render to tho loltor of
Hon. A. K. McClure, copied in this pa
per. Mr. McClure is n radical Congress
man from Pennsjlvania, and his animus
towards the South h revealed by tho let
ter. Wo have had n number of assuran
ces from those who desired to aid and en
courage us, that the President was firm
and unswerving in his magnuniruous and
conciliatory poli y. This letter of Mr.
McClure gives tho same ashuranco in a
very different strain, lie deplores and
denounces tho President’s liberality to
wards tho South, and predicts an exten
sion of Executive clemency and favor in
this direction to tho furthest extent that
the roprescntal* i.s uf thohc friendly to us
have led us to hope for. Wo sincorely
trust that tho four- and forebodings of
Mr. McClure may bo realized, and that i
tho full restoration of tho Union may )
soon be n< •'•rnpli.shfd, upon principles of 1
sectional equxlity, fraternity and justice. J
