STATISTICAL REPORT OF THE
DEPARTMENT OF AtIKI*
(TI/HKE.
Washington, I). C,, Nov. 2(1.—The
November statistical report of the De
partment of Agriculture now in press
im.kes a showing for the corn product
quite as unfavorable as that which fore
casted the short crop of 1809. The pre
liminary report of tho agregate quantity
in that 3 ear indicated a total of 871,000,-
000, less than the estimate for tho large
crop of 1870, and the present returns
point to a product of about 858,000,000.
Tho estimate of last year’s crop of Illinois
wan 217,000,000; tho estimate of the
present crop is 132,000,000. 1 here are
six States thut show a orop equal to last
year’s, viz: Virginia, Georgia, Florida.
West Virginia, Oregon and Rhode Island.
Tho per cent age of tho deficiency in the
principal corn growing section in compar
ison with tho total product of last year, is
as follows: Kentucky, 4 per cent.; Ohio,
11; Indiana, 22; Illinois, 39; Iowa, 28;
Missouri, 32; Kansu*, 31. The deficiency
for New York is 8 per cent , and 16 for
Pennsylvania, In most of the Southern
States the crop is smaller than that of last
your. A direct comparison is made bo.
tween tho total product of grain in each
zonuty, in 1872 and 1873, having for its
elements both a comparative yield and
extont of area.
The cotton reports of November, un-
liko those of the comparative condition
o ilier i-: tho touHou, make each osti-
m iteu of tho expected crop in oath
county, stated in the form of a percent
age of lust year's orop. The aggregate
of these estimates varies little from three
millions and seven hundred thousand
bales. Tho season for picking has boon
unusually line thus far, yet the result
may bo modified by au unexceptlouabJy
favorable season in tho latter part of No
vember and in December, or by storms,
effecting injuriously tho saving of the
top crop.
The State per centages aud comparison
with last year, nro calculated as follows:
North Oardliiin, 92: Georgia, 97; Florida,
97; Alabama, 91; Mississippi, 85; Louisi
ana, 80; Texas, 112; Arkansas, 102; Ten
nessee, 102. Theso figures would be
much lower but for the incroaso of area
planted. Tho estimated total area is in
round numbers nine aud a half milhous.

these return, including the area and yield
