is being rnado by tho officers to supply
their places, and it is expected trains will
run us usual.
Chicago, III., Doc. 27.—Tho engineers
and firemen have struck.
Cincinnati, O., Dec. 27.—The railroad
chops have stopped to allow the mechan
ics to take the striking engineers’ places.
No freight train* have left since noon
yesterday. The officials had no intima
tion of the strike until noon yesterday.
There are reports of attempts to throw
trains off iuto the current. Tho engineers
disavow any intention to interfere with
tho trains. They simply want tho wages
concurrent before Deo. 1st. The depots
hero and elsewhere are full of froightand
passenger trains.
Louisville, Ky. Dec. 28.—The etrik-
iug engineers and brakesmen did not no
tify the officials of tho Jeffersonville,
Mitchell and IudianapoliH railroad of
their intended action until tho trains wore
ready to start yesterday afternoon. Aftor
much trouble tho 8 r. m. train was got
out in chargo of ft master mechanic of
the road. Tho strikes w ill cause a sus
pension of freight aud night pagseuger
trains. Arrangements have been mado
to run out daily two passenger trains iu
chargo of engineers not belonging to tho
union. Horace Hoott, Uenernl Superin
tendent, thinks by Monday ho will bo
able to resume a portion of the freight
trains. Severals of the strikers told ft re
porter yostiudoy that the members of tho
union on the Jeffersonville Mitcliel nnd
Indianapolis railroad sent n deputation to
Pitts!)tug several days since, which met
another delegation, who togothor waited
on Mr. McCullough, General Huperintoud-
nnt of tho Ponnsylvunia Compauy, nnd
reiiioustrated against tho reduction. Ho
referrod them back to the officials of this
division.
It i» understood that tho members of
the union on the Jefforsonvillo Jtailroad
awaitod telegrams from tho headquarters,
at Pittsburg, before inaugurating tbo
strike. Telegrams were received yester
day morning, and the striko commoncod
at 12 o’clock (noou). All tho trains start
ing out before that tiuio wore brought
safely to their destination. No violence
is reported.
Chicago, Dec. 27.—Tho train dispatch
ers at tho oflloo of tho Illinois Central,
Northwestern and Pittsburg, Fort Wayne
and Chicago Kailrouds, in this city, deny
tlio report that the engineers and firemen
on thoHO railroads have struck, and assert
thatthoro is no cause for u strike on those
railroads, as wages have not been reduced.

of the Stowe fratricide, and subsequent
bunging of lionry Stowe, show that tho
two hi others, with some companions, af
ter drinking whiskey freely, commenced
shooting at a mark. John Stowe insisted
on loading tho rifle for oacli competitor,
aud Henry contended that each man
should charge liis gun for himself. Hou
rs'. how over, acceded to the demand of
John, until it was his turn to shoot, wheu
he demuudud that the tide should bo giv
en to him to load. High words followed,
in the course of which Henry charged
John with dishonesty, in not putting any
ball in the gnu when last lending it.
John called Henry a liar; npou which
Heury shot John dead with a revolver.
Henry was immediately seizod by tho re
mainder of tho party, numbering four
men, nnd dragged to a mill, from which n
rope was procured, and hanged to a limb,

took a drink, and upon returning found

The parents of the Stowe brothers, who
live in Pennsylvania, were informed at

in order to avoid a suspicion of violating
tho neutrality laws. A delegation of
Cubans will loavo Baltimore to-morrow

Honors Manuel Silviero and Arnadur Saco,
formerly of tho Edgar Stewart, who are
among the survivors of the Virginius
crew. They wore both officers ou the
Virginius nnd have fought in Cuba, and
their escape from death by the Spaniards
is to be attributed to their extreme youth.
Silviero being only seventeen years old.
After a short stay in Baltimoro they will
join the crew of the Edgar Stewart.
Gen. Aguillora, Vice-Presidont of the
Cuban republic, who has been at his resi
dence in Baltimore for some time past,
has been re-called to active duty, and will
possibly sail in tho Edgar Stewart.

statement in regard to the Edgar Hauart

watched daily by custom officials. Her
register is in tho hands of the collector
