On Sunday night last, as a freedinau
on horseback was about'„* passing Rull

on his way to Mr. Jos. Kyle's plantation,
he found the entrauco to the bridge
blockaded by four men—two whites aud
two blucks—who ordered him to stop and
domundod his money. They were armed
with guns and pistols, and when they at
tempted to seize his horse, which was a
young and spirited animal, ho turned and
started at full speed. They fired on him,
but fortunately missed I lie mark.
Tho rider was scared, and did not dare
attempt to reach his destination, but re
