The appearance of Becky Boyd, (her first for two
weeks), naturally excited the curiosity ol PoMjs Court
visitors, because everybody thought that Rebecca had
exhausted the calendar ot crime, in a small way, and
there was nothing left for her to do. But the tongue
of gossip had his residence in her bosom, and when
Eden Winahip wanted her to pay a quarter which
B.cky owed the old lady for washing, she indignantly
refused; and used a heap of bad language to a reigh-
bor about Aunt Ellen, sbe accused her of various
things which had never entered Nel ie’s head to do,
and went about among the neighbors talking and gos-
sipping to an extent that the old gal could stand it
longer. She traced the scandal up, and had Becky
hauled before the judgment asat for ’ scandal:zen’
spec table ooman.” The denouremant revealed the fact
that Jonnie Boyd owed Becky a quarter and Ellen bad
garnisheed Jonnie. Some ville liquor, and a sufficient
quantity of femala pluck caused a row and Becky
goes to the cloister for thirteen days.
