I The bnsiness before the United States Supreme .

[special to herald.]
The yellow fever is here, and up to this
hour, 5 p. m. , there are some twenty or thirty
cases reported. There were four deaths here
on Sunday last, one death last night—Mr. W.
T. Worne. Mr. Simon Engel, one of our most
prominent merchants, died to-day, also a
colored man. Tnere are new cases occnrring
every hour, and the excitement is intense.
The disease has got among the colored popu
lation, and will doubtless prove quite fatal.
Major Ben. F. Bruton, ex-Senator of this
district, is verj low. Dr. Charlton, of Savan
nah, 19 here, and he together with local doc
tors pronounce the disease, about which
there has been some doubts, the yellow fever
in all its grades, but all concur in the opinion
that it is not yet contagions. The city au
thorities are working hard, instituting sanitary
measures, and everything is being done that
is possible to check the disease.
Everybody that can get away is leaving
town. Business is on the stand stil*, and the
merchants are consideiiog the feasibility of
closing altogether. Some cases are getting
better, but others are occurring very last.
There is almost a stampede to-day. You will
hear farther to-morrow. J.
