Miss March
The Taylor County News Calendar Girl for March is Abby
Carpenter. Abby is a senior at Taylor County High School,
where she is a member of Key Club, Beta Club, the football
cheer team, and the Youth Leadership program, Abby is a
dual enrollment student and a Royal Card student. She is
a member of Bethel Congregational Methodist Church.
Following graduation, she plans to attend Georgia South
western State University to pursue a Pre-Physical Therapy
degree. Abby is the daughter of Buddy and Jean Carpen
ter of Rupert and has two brothers, Ajidy and Austin Car
penter\ Her grandparents are Lee Roy and Lynda Carpen
ter of Butler, Richard and June Maxwell of Talbott on, and
Paula Maxwell of Waverly Hall. The Calendar Girl is a
monthly feature of Taylor County High School and The
Taylor County News. Calendar Girls are chosen based on
academics, extracurricular activities, personality, and char
acter.

Cal Benjamin Parker has been named The Taylor County
News Calendar Guy for March. Cal Benjamin is a senior
at Taylor County High School, where he is a Royal Card
Student and a member of Beta Club and Key Club. He is a
member of the Howard Charge Methodist Churches. Fol
lowing graduation, he plans to attend Abraham Baldwin
Agricultural College in Tifton, GA. Cal Benjamin is the
son of Clint and Clair Parker of Butler and has two broth
ers, Peyton and Ander Parker. His grandparents are Gerald
and Linda Parker of Butler and John Milner of Hartwell,
GA. The Calendar Guy is a monthly feature of The Taylor
County News and Taylor County High School. Calendar
Guys are chosen based on academics, extracurricular ac
tivities, personality, and character.
Reynolds Considers Downtown Development Authority

Last Monday night, the
Reynolds Mayor and City
Council met via Zoom for the
regular March meeting.
Stephanie Russell, Economic
Development Manager with
Georgia Municipal Association
(GMA), provided information
about the City developing a
Downtown Development Au
thority (DDAi,
A DDA operates under differ
ent statutes than the county
development authority, and the
entities are independent. A
DDA is empowered to buy and
sell property for commercial
use, Cities do not have this
power,
The DDA would include seven
board members with four-year
terms. The City Council has no
control over the DDA. It is con
trolled by state statute, but the
DDA Board would include one
appointed council member.
The cost to establish a DDA is
around $1,800. Once estab
lished. the City provides seed
funding, and the DDA can ap
ply for grants and hold
fundraisers for revenue,
Ms. Russell’s office would pro
vide consultation services to le
gally establish the DDA. train
personnel, plan, and imple
ment. This process takes about
six months. Before proceeding,
the Council agreed to see if
there are people in the city who
are interested m serving four-
year terms on the DDA.

AH Georgians 16 and older are
eligible for COVID-19 vaccine,
beginning Thursday, March 25th.
The Pfizer vaccine is approved for anyone 16 years of
age and older. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson
vaccines are approved for anyone 18 years and older.

Chief Holder also reported
that there were three felony
arrests over the weekend pre
ceding the meeting.
Due to COVID-19. the Taylor
County Jail is currently not ac
cepting misdemeanor prisoners
from Butler or Reynolds, Coun-
eilWoman Libby Bond noted
that the City pays Taylor
County to use the jail Shesug-
ge$ted re-signmg the intergov
ernmental agreement and
sending prisoners to the Tay
lor County Jail.
The Reynolds Fire Depart
ment responded to five calls in
February, including three wild
land fires, one vehicle accident,
and one vehicle fire, according
to Reynolds Firefighter Jason
Griffin.
There was some discussion
about individual issues with
water meters. The Council
agreed to follow existing rules
for each case.
Prior to adjournment, Mayor
Pro tem Danny Perkins asked
to return to in-person meetings.
A work session was scheduled
for March 22nd, in person, at
the Depot.

to dump your trash* No trash should be
placed on top of the cart or along the sides
of the cart. Please have your trash IN a trash
bag, to prevent trash being strewn or blown
into the street. Your cart should not be
placed within 3 feet of any structure, pole,
mailbox, tree, or bush. Your cart should be
placed with the front facing the street. Just
a reminder, the garbage truck runs early, so
please put your cart out the night before, if
