This writing contest, spon
sored by the Georgia Language
Arts Supervisors and the Geor
gia RESA Network, with sup
port from the Georgia Depart
ment of Education, is open to
students in grades K-12 and
includes all types of writing
such as short stories, poetry,
essay, research reports, and
other forms. The purpose of
Young Georgia Authors (VGA)
writing competition is to en
courage students to develop en
thusiasm for and expertise in
their writing, to provide a con
text to celebrate their writing
successes, and to recognize stu
dent achievement in arts and
academics. TCUES students Patrick McCarthy,4lh grade, and Sadie Murrah,
3rd grade, won the region grade level competitions.

DEPARTMENT
Grand Opening Held For
New Reynolds Police
Department At The Armory
Monday morning, March 29th, at 11:30 a.m., a large crowd
gathered at the Armory building in Reyn olds for the Grand
Openimg and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new
JReynolds Police Department, The crowd was welcomed by
Reynolds City Councilwoman Libby Bond, followed by re
marks from Reynolds Police Chief Lonnie J. Holder Chief
Holder noted that he has been with the Reynolds Police
Department for 14 years, and this new location for the de-
partment is a milestone for the department’s success. He
added that renovation of the east wing of the Armory was
paid with SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales
Tax) funds, at no cost to the property tax payers of Reynolds.
Rev. Jim Gibson gave the Invocation, followed by further
remarks by Shonda Blab; Executive Director of the Taylor
County Chamber of Commerce and Taylor County Devel
opment Authority. Reynolds police officers, Reynolds City
Hall staff and members of the Taylor County Chamber of
Commerce assisted in cutting the ribbon, before guests took
tours of the newly renovated office space at the Armory,
which now houses the Reynolds Police Department. Re
freshments were served.
Butler Police Make
Arrests For Drug &
Firearm Violations
On Saturday, March 27th. at
approximately 2:43 p.m., the
Butler Police Department was
dispatched to a disturbance on
Mulberry St., near the intersec
tion of Oak St., involving a per
son with a firearm confronting
multiple juveniles. Following
an im r estigation, a 59 year old
female, Amanda Davis, of But
ler, was arrested and charged
with Cruelty to Children (2
counts), Reckless Conduct (4
counts), and Pointing/Aiming a
Pistol at Another.
On Monday, March 29th, at
approximately 1:44 p.m., But
ler Police Officer Dakota
Windham initiated a traffic
stop on a Toyota Corolla on
Hwy. 96, in the area of North
Park Avc., for driving with no
tag. Upon talking to the driver,
Haley Andrus, and passenger,
Bo Andrus, Officer Windham
located multiple Schedule II
pills not in the original con
tainer and a clear glass pipe
containing suspected metham-
phe famine.
