Talk about some buzzard luck—well, I just thought I had bad
luck, but there’s a man in California who truly has buzzard luck!
(I’m just talking-my Ma taught me a long time ago that there’s
no such thing as luck—its blessings-or in this case—the lack of
them. This One may be a lesson J
About ten years ago, when Bitcoin first came on the scene, some
folks jumped on that wagon, hoping to, one day, make a fortune.
I’m not a gambler, so I played it safe and stayed with the tradi
tional bank. It was the best bet for me, since I don’t have extra
money to invest, anyway. Well, recently, the ship sailed in, and
Bitcoin investors made lots and lots of money. But, when this
particular investor (and lots of others) decided to withdraw their
millions-he couldn’t remember his password. Ugh! (Now, that
part sounds like me.)
Bitcoin allows folks to act as their own bank. The bitcoin goes
into a digital wallet. To open the wallet, it takes a hard drive,
called an IronKey, which holds the keys to the digital wallet. It
takes a password to get into the IronKey, and there is no person,
or company, or anything that is able to help you retrieve your
password. If you forget it, or lose it—your money is irretrievable.
In this particular case, the man has 7,002 bitcoin, which is now
worth $220 million. He invested in 2011, wrote the password on
a piece of paper, and promptly lost the piece of paper. He has 10
shots as guessing the password, before he is locked out forever,
and the digital wallet can never be unencrypted, (This was set
up to keep other people, governments, and criminals out of folks’
money, but it also keeps the investors out of their own money,)
This man has used eight of his 10 attempts. Call it buzzard luck,
or a very, very hard lesson!
Years ago, when I first heard of Bitcoin, 1 just had a feeling that
it would be a big of mess, but that’s because I’m old-fashioned
and not trusting of crypto currency and such as that! It just sounds
like a scam!
This man is just one of many. About 20 percent, or $140 billion,
is now lost, or locked up, in digital wallets that cannot be ac
cessed, because folks can’t remember their passwords! What a
mess!
Well, I can’t even remember my Facebook and Hulu passwords,
so I better just keep my two dollars in my pocket! As we say
down here in the South, “Bless their hearts!”

April 13,2021,8:30 PM, we left The Place in Taylor County
for the emergency room of Jack Hughston Memorial Hos
pital on the yonder side of the Chattahoochee River from
Columbus.
Doctors on the ground floor took blood samples from
Brynda because her newest prosthetic knee was twice its
normal size. After midnight, they drained fluid from her
knee socket. Both went to scientists to discover the specific
microbe causing the infection.
Normally, white blood cells number between 4,000 and
11,000 per microliter of blood, laboratory scientists calcu
lated Brynda’s was 40,000.
We prayed in earnest!
At 2:08 AM, doctors sent us up to a room on the fourth
floor, the orthopedic unit. They prescribed, pharmacists
formulated, and nurses administered powerful broad-spec
trum antibiotics directly into Brynda’s blood stream through
an intravenous line.
Scientists, who according to Democrats are smarter than
everybody except them, started an analytical quest to pin
point the specific bacteria that Brynda’s body was fighting.
During our stay in that hospital, a steady stream of people
worked to make Brynda’s hospitalization a success. This
pundit was mostly just a decoration. Each doctor, nurse,
technician, and worker were exceptionally good at their
profession.
Brynda’s mate became an active caregiver, particularly
dumping the slop jar (because that was the quickest way
to get back to sleep).
Every 180 minutes around the clock, there was a nurse or
technician pulling blood samples, administering antibiot
ics, taking vital signs, listening to heart and lungs, or treat
ing Brynda’s wound.
The hospital routine began each day at three o’clock AM
when a technician tapped once on the door, slowly opening
it, flipped a switch that illuminated the darkened room with
a small fluorescent light, asked Brynda’s name and birth
day, correct answers then enabled the technician to extract
three vials of blood. She inventoried them, collected the
garbage from wastebaskets, exited the room, and closed
the door. We then went back to sleep until six o’clock when
a nurse awoke us to check vital signs and administer medi
cations.
Two days after surgery, the “vampire,” as this pundit re
ferred to that blood technician, left, we barely entered a
slumber when there was a loud rap at the door, it swung
wide-open at 4 o’clock, a nurse rushed to the bedside, and
without asking name, rank, or serial number asked curtly,
“Which arm did the technician take that blood sample?”
'The right arm,” was the reply.
The nurse examined the arm and darted out the door!

For the preaching of the cross is to them
that perish foolishness; but unto us which
are saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18, KJV
Seconds later, a bevy of people came in and announced,
“We must give you a blood transfusion, now!”
This pundit quickly dressed, put away his rollaway bed,
absorbed detailed data, and prayed!
People came and went at a rapid pace, and a nurse came
in with two units of whole blood. An IV slowly delivered
the life-giving fluid.
Seven hours later, Brynda’s complexion was rosy, and our
routine resumed.
Scientists never discovered the biologic agent, one ex
plained, There is much science doesn’t yet know.” Demo
crats will never admit that.
We continually complimented the staff on their profes
sionalism and often told them that they made a positive
impact on our 1 ives.
We all need to know that we are important and useful.
Late on our last day in the hospital, a nurse explained the
SASH system, and said. “Bob, you must learn to give your
wife antibiotics by a PICC line before she can be discharged.”
Ugh, this ole boy had to learn to SASH before we could go
home!
The nurse taught this old dog a new trick!
SASH is a laminated poster diagram and instructions that
are easy to follow and is an acronym for Saline, Administer
the Medication, Saline, and Heparin; a four-step sequence.
Each pushed through an IV port in a large vein of her right
bicep below Brynda’s shoulder that ends a few inches from
her heart.
We push one antibiotic every eight hours and each morn
ing we do a two-hour IV drip of a second medicine in SASH
sequence.
Surprisingly, this pundit is no longer just a decoration,
but a doer of details from the potty to the laundry. Every
detail of life for both of us is now his responsibility.
Fortunately, our church family is steadily feeding us.
Family and friends are lendinghelp in innumerable ways.
This newspaperman and encourager of those medical prac
titioners making a huge difference in this world at Jack
Hughston Memorial Hospital now realizes what his true
value is to this world, he is a great toilet paper holder!

The
Unfinished
Story
By Billy Powell
Mark’s gospel strangely ends at chapter 16, verse 8. Verses
9 through 20 were added by an unknown writer—and foot
noted in many Bibles. Church fathers Eusebius and Jerome
attest that the first Greek manuscripts ended at Mark 16:8.
The language and style of verses 9-20 rule out Mark as its
author.
Mark wrote the first gospel about 40 years after Jesus’
crucifixion and resurrection and published it around 70
A.D. Since Mark was closely associated with Peter and
Paul—both of whom were martyred by Emperor Nero dur
ing 66-68 A.D.—this made Mark a likely target who may
have suffered the same fate. The book of Mark was writ
ten on a long papyrus roll, the last page of which could
have been accidentally torn away, Consequently, the pos
sibilities are that (1) Mark intended his gospel to end at
Chapter 16, verse 8, (2) he suffered martyrdom before fin
ishing it, or (3) a section of papyrus was torn away.
The writer of chapter 16, verses 9-20 borrowed heavily
from Luke’s gospel and included the following accounts:
(1) Jesus appears to Mary Magdalene-verses 9 through 11,
(2) Abbreviated version of Walk to Emmaus-verses 12
through 13, (3) Jesus appears to eleven disciples-verse 14,
(4) Jesus commissioned the disciples to preach the gospel-
verses 13 through 18, and (5) Jesus ascended into heaven-
verses 19 and 20. The ghost writer was said to be Ariston,
a 2nd century presbyter and follower of Jesus.
The Kith chapter begins with the women coming to the
tomb to anoint Jesus’ body with spices. Surprised that the
heavy stone had been rolled away, the women are greeted
by a young man dressed in white who proclaims: “Don’t be
alarmed. Jesus is not here. He is risen! Go tell His dis
ciples and Peter that he is going before them into Galilee
and there they will see him.” Verse 8 concludes with this
strange ending: “Trembling and bewildered, the women
fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because
they were afraid.” The abruptness of this ending leaves
readers puzzled and wanting the story continued.
John Mark was a young follower of Jesus who lived with
his mother in Jerusalem-reputedly in the house where the
Lord’s Supper was held. He was the first recorded
“streaker”(Mark 14:51-52). Paul and Barnabas took Mark
along on the 1st miss ionary journey (Acts 12: 25), but Mark
turned back and lost favor with Paul (Acts 13: 13). There
after, Paul would not permit Mark to join subsequent mis
sionary journeys (Acts 15: 36-41). Sometime later, Mark
appears with Paul in Rome (Philemon 24). Mark’s gospel
was the first gospel written. Of its 660 verses, 600 are found
in Matthew and 350 in Luke.
It is difficult to conceive that Mark would intentionally
omit an ending to his gospel. However, it is highly possible
that the last page of the papyrus roll had been torn away.
During the first century, Christians were a despised people
who were persecuted for their beliefs. Being closely associ
ated with Peter and Paul, Mark could have been martyred
before he finished his gospel.
