“Taylor County, Georgia - Connecting You To The Rural Life”
Artist Christopher Johnson has completed Butler's second mural, “Taylor County, Georgia - Connecting You To The Rural lifewhich adorns the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office at 4 W. Main Street and
brightens up the entire town! The mural was made possible through the Flint Energies Rural Mural Project grant, in the amount of $J0,000, with a focal match from the Taylor County Development
Authority, in the amount of $2 f00. This is the second of two murals awarded to Sutler. A third mural mil he painted on the Knight *s Pharmacy Building in Reynolds, paid by the Taylor County Chamber
of Commerce and the Taylor County Development Authority, with no grant funds. Christopher Johnson is an Art Professor at Andrew College in Cuthbert, OA and resides in Columbus, GA.

Taylor County 12U Ponytails
Are State Champions
The Dixie Youth State Tournament was held in Cochran t GA June 25-27th. The Taylor
County 12U Ponytails went undefeated and came home the State Champs. This team
scored 43 runs while only allowing 2 runs. The team was lead by pitchers Shelhi Barrow,
Molleigh Gassett, and Sunni Scott. Eliana Brown h it her first over the fence home run in
the first game. Pitcher Sunni Scott pitched a no hitter in the championship game. AU the
team helped contribute to their wins with great defense and hot bats. This team will go on
to represent the State of Georgia in the Dixie Youth World Series to be held in Alexan dria,
LA, beginning July 30th. The players are: Kinsley Barrow, Shelbi Barrow, Eliana Brown,
Molleigh Gassett, Bralyn Hunter, Laila Lowe, Alyssa Nipper; Sunni Scott, Chloe White,
and Zhoe White. Coaches include Candi Barrow, Benjy Barrow, and Chets Gassett.

Lady Vikings’ 132 Game Winning Streak
From 1967-72, the Taylor
County High School Lady Vi
kings of Butler, Georgia, won
132 games in a row, which still
stands as a state record and
ranks fourth in the nation.
Led by Coach Norman Carter,
the team dominated girls bas
ketball in Georgia for five
years. Bunny Fuller Harris
wrote the memoir There Was
Once a Team to honor her
team, her coach, and her com
munity.
Bunny was a member of the
Lady Vikings for four of the
five winning streak seasons.
There Was- Once a Team tells
the inspiring story of how be-
ing a Lady Viking shaped
Bunny’s life and those of her
teammates as they learned
about basketball, teamwork,
responsibility, and leadership.
The tension of close games,
the excitement of state com
petitions, and the love of a
small community for a win
ning team are all part of this
account of the Lady Vikings'
winning streak years. The 144
page softcover book also in
cludes pictures, team rosters,
and a chart listing each game
in the winning streak.
Bunny grew up in the
Crowell Community of Taylor
County and taught in the Tay
lor County School System for
many years. She is married to
Mark Harris, another former
Taylor County basketball
standout, and they live in the
Crowell Community where
Bunny grew up.
Bunny’s daughter, Katie
Harris Dodrill, an associate
professor of English at An
drew College, served as co
author of There Was Once a
Team. Bunny and Katie are
excited to tell the story of this
part ofTaylor County history.

Taylor County To Participate In Statewide Bible Reading July 14
On July 14th at each county
courthouse in Georgia, there
will be a short reading of the
Bible. This is the 3rd year the
interdenomi national gatheri ng
will be held in Georgia. In an
hour or less, the entire Bible
will be read over our state.
The basis for this reading is
taken from 2 Chronicles 7:14,
‘‘If my people, who are called by
my name, will humble them
selves, and pray and seek my
face, and turn from their
w'icked ways, then 1 will hear
from heaven, and forgive their
sin and heal their land."
The Statewide Bible Reading
project was started in Iowa by
Dianne Bentley in 2018, Last
year, 16 states and 57 countries
participated. The goal this year
is to expand the Bible reading
in every time zone on 7/14,
