Houston Co. Correctional Institute

The holidays! The time of the
year when we only see love, peace
and joy in our immediate surround
ings. It's the time when memories
stem from a family setting around
lighted trees and smiling, excited
faces of our children.
It also brings along depression
and disappointment for many of us.
One small group of the least
fortunate during this season is at
the Houston County Correctional
Institute.
The men who live at HCCI are
blessed with an accommodating
warden, a loving community and
caring fellow inmates.
All of us inmates would like to
express our deepest thanks to
warden Larry Fairchild, counselor
Alfred Conten and the Perry
Presbyterian Church for removing
the unpleasantness and filling the
holidays with the three gifts we
cherish most at this time: love, joy
and peace.
Love came from the wonderful
members of the Perry Presbyterian
Church, who donated presents for
the children of some 40 fathers at
HCCI. Without these caring people

our families would not have been
able to share in the spirit of giving
during this time of year.
Joy came to us on more than one
occasion when several local
churches came out to cheer up the
inmates. There was singing,
praising and fellowship at these
wonderful programs. The Christian
community is to be commended for
bringing the Christmas message to
those of us who have felt forgotten.
Peace entered our minds and
hearts by the festivities we shared
with our families at visitation.
Thanks to a persistant, big hearted
fellow inmate, our visitation room
was turned into a family living
room.
For the first time ever, the HCCI
was graced with a visit from Santa
Claus (played by Ronnie Camp).
Ronnie made sure that our
children received the donated
presents by Santa beside a beautiful
Christmas tree.
The room was filled with
Christmas music, wrapped presents,
lighted tree but most of all, proud
fathers and joyous smiling sons and
daughters. What a peaceful,
memorable time we had with our
families.
All of the inmates would like to
thank Ronnie Camp for his
persistance, unselfish efforts and
generosity. Without Ronnie's ef
forts, it would have been just
another visitation day.
We thank everyone for some
wonderful Christmas memories.
