Pardonkd.—The President has issued a
pardon to Samuel It. Mallory, of Florida,
late Secretary of the Navy ot the South
ern Confederacy. Mr. Mallory was the
only member of Jefferson Davis* cabinet
who surrendered, and elected to throw
himself upon the mercy of the United
States Government. His pardon was re
commended by the Governor, Lieut. Gov
ernor, Stahe Treasurer, ten Senators, and
sixty-four members of the House of Rep
resentatives of the Connecticut Legisla
ture, and by Messrs. Hotchkiss. Ilubbard,
and Barnard, members of Congress; also
by Secretary Seward. Attorney General
Stan bury. Gov. Marvin, and Major Gen. H.
G. Wright, U. S. army.
It is stated on good authority that the
President will shortly pardon Alexander £W
H. Stephens, late Vice President of the legal
