GT The Commissioner of Pensions, at
the request of an officer of the Treasury
Department, has furnished a report show
ing that the whole number of applications
for pensions by reason of casualties in the
late wir f filed prior to November 1, was
5?,472. Of this number, 209,628 have been
acted on, 67,915 suspended for additional
evidence, and 9,929 awaiting action in their
Drder. In the army branch there has been
129.590 applications for invalid pensions
and 151,140 on behalf of widows, orphans,
©r dependent relatives. In the navy branch
there were 18.408 in vu 1 : i) applications, and
3,904 on behalf of wki. vvs. orphans or de
pendent relatives.
