caught from a defective flue. The
church building was about IS years old
and was valued at about 113,000 anil

Already plans are on foot to replace
the burned edifice with a 'handsome
new brick structure costing $60,000.

boldest attempts at burglary In some
time was discovered last night Just as
the thieves had entered the residence
of Mrs. George K. Turrentlne, on Tur-
rentlne avenue. Mra. Turrentlne heard
a noise In the house between It and I?
o'clock, and started to Investigate and
was making her way through the hall
to the front of the house, when the
front door was suddenly opened and
she was confronted by four negreee,
two grown and two very small onss.

Halifax. N. 8.. Feb. 6.—The steamers
Mystic and Nana, which were aground
near Ketch harbor last night, were
safely floated this morning and are
now anchored In this harbor. The
Nana had been In low of the Mystic
on account of a broken shaft. The
Mvatic has a small hols stove In her
bottom, but Is otherwise uninjured. The
crews of both vessels are safe.
