and oat up and chattad with the death

again, coulpllng -and continuing very
restless. At $ o'clock he awakened
again, his last awakening on thla
sarth.
Bullard ate heartily of hla breakfast
and drank atlmulant provided for him.
He smoked two cigars and seemed In
better splriti than usual. Tho physi
cians' examination showed that hla
pulse waa but little above the normal,
its temperature being $11-3 degree*
and ht> respiration 34.
During Thursday evanlng Bullard
waa vary hopeful. Ha read the edito
rial In The Oeorglan. a plea for tha
life of a man already dying from a
dread dlsaaae. and expressed the belief
that thla would save him.
’You mustn't ba loo hopeful,” said
hla watcher, kindly. "You know It's
getting mighty close to the time now.' 1
"Yea," answered Bullard; “I'm like
the 'possum. I rockon I'm treed."
John Bullard's Crime.
John Bullard waa Iliad and convicted
of the murder of hla daughter. Ruby
Bullard, who waa 17 years of age when
ahr waa shot down.
The killing occurred at the breakfast
table In the home of Ihe Bullards, near
Powder riprlnga. There had been elo-
rlea circulated regarding Bullard's al
most Insane love for his daughter and
this had at one time drawn tha father
Into the court*.
Bullard allot tha girl through th*
head with a pistol and then gave him
netf up to the officers of the law.
For a long tlmo hla only explanation
was: "It was nect-saary," Hr was
convicted, and an effort waa made lo
save hint on the plea of Insanity. This
failed and h* wo. condemned in death
oti March 1. 1307.
Last Wednesday he opened hi* lip*,
and lo a reporter for The Oeorglan told
for Ihe Brat lime why he killed hla
daughter, lie clalmrd then that It waa
an accident
I waa holding the pistol, when a lit
of convulsive coughing attacked me."
hr said. "In this convulsion the weap
on was Itred and nuby killed."
Farewell to Attorney.
Attorney E. Albert Clay, who made
such a determined light In tiehair of
the condemned men. visited Bullard In
hie cell *t 11 o'clock and told him
goodbye *
"Goodbye," faintly murmured Bul
lard. "You made a good light and I
want to thank you for It."
Attorney Clay would not wait and
nee the execution. He »■»» much af
fected hy th* scenes nt the cell and he
sold hr could not nitner* the excu-
tlon.
Although appointed by Judge Onber
to defend Dullard and not receiving
any fro. Attorney clay fought stub
bornly and even spent money nut of
hla own pocket.
Blot on th* South."
Tn the Editor of The Oeorglan;
The hanging of a dying man at .Ma
rietta today I regard a* brutal and
believed Governor J. M. Terrell to be
humane and fearl era. I am genuinely
surprised that he permitted the shame,
ful thing lo be done.
Poor Bullard! He la gona and really,
la better dead than living, but how
about Georgia?
Does any sane pernon believe that
the result would have been this hor-
rible mockary of Justice, had Bullard
and hla family been possessed of wealth

Hie temperature waa $3 degrees F.;
pulse, sitting too, standing 11«; respi
ration. sitting 30 lo 3$, standing 3« to
3$. Hla hlalory, hla symptoms and tha
available physical signs Indicate the
existence of tuberculosis of the lunge
and of th* larynx.
Th* upper portions of both lung* are
affected to a considerable degree—the
right slightly more than th* left. He
sneaks with difficulty and only In a
whispered vole*. He ha* a very trou
blesome cough, accompanied by abun
dant muco-purulent expectoration.
Able to Walk About
II* la evidently greatly reduced In
weight and strength, though he can
eaelly stand erect and walk unassisted
about th* room and corridors—neither
the emaciation nor th* debility la ex
treme. At no time since hie Incarcera
tion has he been confined to bed. He
has been up and dressed every day.
. The disease aroma to be ot about two
years' standing, and lo have progressed
slowly, but there la reason to believe
that It has progressed more rapidly
since bln Imprisonment In September
lost than before that time.
We can discover at thla etage no rea.
son to think that Its count* will be ar
rested. It will probably be progressive
and prove ultimately ratal, and un
less material Improvement Is manifest
ed, thla result will not be long de
layed.
Improved Phyeiaally.
We can venture no poailve prediction
aa lo Ihe exact duration of lire. It Is
certainly possible that he may survive

ihe ratio of decline may be speedily
augmented. In hie eondlilon he la lia
