Alabama railroad commission ha* se
lected ft. B. Kennedy, of Annleton. an
It* secretary, succeeding Virgil Orlf-
fln. who resigned, and also the rail
road* of the state were aaked for rate*.
Mr. Kennedy, the new necretary, la a
well-known railroad rate man. having
been connected with railroad* for nome
time. Recently he has been In charge
of the freight bureau at Anniston and
ha* been carrying on the work which
the commln*lon want* to be done.
Mr. Xenbltt said that certain rail
road* were not observing the maximum
rate act passed by thn present legisla
ture. which It* now In force, and the
secretary waa Instructed to write to
the road* of these reports and have
them tile lists of all the ratea that
prevail, both on commodity and mile
age.
Tfle’nneu law requires the commis
sion to have a seal, and It was decided
that the new seal should contain the
coat of arms of the state and the words
“Alabama Railroad Commission.**
The express company was given until
the April meeting to tile Its rates with
the commission. The company stated
that It would he Impossible to file then
by .March 18. as heretofore requested
They were also requested to flic n copy
of their contracts with -the various
railroad*.

kidnaped front his home, near Dover.
