musical, and her daughter, Mrs. Hoff,
man, possesses rare pins and brooches
which were presented to her mother by
members of ths royal families of Eu
rope.

Mrs. Robert Shelor, tho guest of Mrs.
D. H. Lopez, was guest of honor Tues
day afternoon nt a party given for her
by Mrs. D. H. Lopez. Bridge was
played, and there were present about
twelve guests. At ths conclusion of
the game, a delicious luncheon was
served. Mrs. Lopes's borne was
decorated with roses and ferns, and
Mrs. Lopes received her friends In
a white lingerie gown. Mrs. Shelor
wore a handsome blue foulard, trimmed
with lace.

Chicago, April 80.—Miss Jessie Wal
ters, who traveled 4,000 miles to Join
her sweetheart, was married to Mr.
Frederick Preddy Monday by tho Rev.
Shayler, rector of the Grace Episcopal
church .of Oak Park. The ceremony
was the culmination of a romance
which began In tho village of North
Morton, near Oxford, England, some
years ago, where Mr. Preddy first met
Miss Walters, whose father Is a well,
to-do land owner.
Shortly afterward young Preddy
came to the United States, and he now
la a building contractor at Birmingham,
Ala. He and his bride departed last
evening for Birmingham.
Allas Walters left Liverpool on April
15 and reached Boston last Friday.
Mr. Preddy Joined her In Chicago.
She had with her a letter from her
father to Rector Shayler, asking him to
allow the two to be married In Grace
church, and that the rector perform
the ceremony. Rector Shayler became
acquainted with Miss Walters' family
when In England.
MEETING OF GORDON CIRCLE.
The regular meetlnr of the Gordon
Circle of the King's Daughters and
Sons has been postponed from May 1
to May 8 at 8:80 p. m. at the Home for
Old Women, 18 East Mitchell street.

In the selection of Miss Alary Kirk
patrick as one of ths three ladles to un
veil the monument on the battlefield of
Shiloh, built by the Alabama division,
U. D. C., the committee has mads a
very happy selection. Miss Kirkpat
rick's grandfather, the late General
James T. Holtzclaw, led the famous
Eighteenth Alabama Into this great
battle, and he received his baptism of
fire and was conspicuous for his bra
very until carried from the field shot
through the right lung.
Miss Kirkpatrick herself has several
times been honored by the veterans,
having been maid of honor for General
Stephen D. Lee at New Orleans. She
enjoys the distinction of having been
the youngest chartar V. D. C. member
of the first chapter formed In Mont
