rell at .Eastman, Os'., had broken down
under the strain she has been under
since the trial, and la now under the
care of a physician.
Mre. Freeney stated that before go
ing to Eastman She felt very well, but
the trip there and back and the strain
of the trial wae too much for her. Be
fore going to Eastman Mrs. Freeney
had the highest hopes of being cleared
of the charge of murder.
Mrs. Freeney Is again confined In the
Bibb county Jail awaltfisg ihe result of

THREE MEN INJURED

Macon, Oa.. May 28.—Three men, two
white and a negro, were injured yes
terday when the scarfolding at tho At
lantic Compress Company gave way
and the men fell a distance of thirty
feet.
Robert L. Thomas, white, had his left
leg badly wrenched nnd otherwlee
shaken up, and Jeff Bynum, white, was

jured.
Ike Harris, the negro, was the worst
Injured. He Is suffering from a bad
scalp wound, left leg Injured and right
shoulder dislocated.
The tnen were all carried to tho city
hospital, where they are resting cosily.

alarms In as many days have started the
members of the Macon fire department
to thinking and Chief L. M. Junes went

talk about the nuisance.'
Sunday box 15, at the corner of Cher
ry and Fourth streets, wss pulled at
about noon, and yesterday the depart
ment was tailed upon a wild goose
chase to the comer of Oak and Fourth
streets. Upon neither occasion was
even a' trace bf fire found and no
one In the neighborhoods knew who
sent tn the alarms.'
MAN WHO WAS STABBED

was stabbed Saturday night by a negro,
passed a very quiet night last night and
this morning was a little better.
The wound inflicted Is more serious
than wae at first thought, as the blade
of the knife pentratod the pleura cavity.

AFTER BATTLE HEARING,

Macon, Ga., May 28.—In the matter
ot the case against Cornelius O'Con-
nelt, petition for attachment for con
tempt, which was due to be heard In
the United Btates court yesterday.
Judge Speer decided to postpone the
matter until June 2, after the case of
Tom Battle has been heard.
The court stated that It did not care
to hear the charges against O'Connell
until the Indictment against Battle had
been disposed of.

BOARD WI^L CONSIDER
INCREASE FOR'SCHOOLS.

Macon, Ga.. May 28.—The board of
county commissioners will hold a called
nieettng Tuesday afternoon for the pur
pose of hearing the committee from the
board of education In behalf of an In
creased appropriation for tbe schools.
The board requires that the appropria
tion be Increased this year from 8*6,000
to 171,000, and as this Increase Is neces
sary, It will doubtless be granted.

council requiring the Macbn Railway
and Light Company to. place storm
curtains on all of their open cars. At
this time It was stated by the company
that they had anticipated this action on
the part of council, and that the cur
tains, had already been ordered. This
action was taken In March, but the
curtains have not yet arrived; if so,
they have not been put. up

FROM U. S. PRISON

ployed outside the prison proper and
his escape was an easy matter. 'He

Thomas Clay at Wext Point.
Thomas Clay, youngest son of Sena
tor A. S. Clay, ha* received notice from
the war department to report to West
Point on June 17 for entrance to the
military academy. He was appointed
by Congressman T. M. Bell, of the
Ninth district, nnd has already suc
cessfully passed thd examination.

neer, be employed to determine whether
or not a centrifugal pump will do the
work for the waterworks, was adopted
