Fayetteville* Go., June 22.—A tire
which was discovered In the Burk*'
Hotel here at 3:30 o'clock this morn
lng totally destroyed the building,
causing a loss of 37,600. The building
was only partially covered by lnsur
ance. The alarm was given In time
for all the occupant* to escape, though
the household effects were^almost all
destroyed. Among these the effects de
stroyed was a line piano, the property
of a boarder.

ATHLETIC CLUB BUYS
BOX FOR THE SEASON
The Atlanta Athletic Club has pur
chased for the season a box at the base
ball park, and It will be open to mem
bers for the remainder of the games.
Under the plan of sale at the new
park, the price of box seats Is 75 cents.
The club has avoided paying this price
by purchasing the box, and In the fu-
turo members and out-of-town friends
will be admitted to the prlvato box at
the regular grand stand price of 50
cents.
REWARD IS SPLIT
INTO THREE PARTS
Governor Terrell heard and decided a
contest for a 1200 reward Saturday
between two Macon police officers and
a young railroader, whose home Is In
Terrell county.
Jesse Ferguson, of Terrell county,
pointed out Gene Nix, a negro who
murdered W. O. Chambliss In Terrell
county, to Officers D. H. Riley and Pat
Pierce, of Macon. All three filed claims
for the reward.
Governor Terrell decided that Fer
guson was entitled to 3150 of the
amount, and the officers (25 each. The
negro Nix is serving a life sentence In
In the penitentiary.
NEW ORLEANS BOY
WON SECOND PRIZE
New Haven. Conn., June 22.—The
second John Addison Porter prise In
American history at Yals University
was won by Lewis Charles Everard,
of New Orleans, La,, a member of the
class of 1908. His essay was on 'in
fluence of the Louisiana Purchase on
American Politics." Henry Stone Love-
Joy, of Wisconsin, won the first prize.
