JS DIMINISHING
When the Seventeenth Infantry left
Atlanta Idst winter for Cuba there were
600 men In the two battalions, but re
ports from tbe troop# Indicate that the
numbers are diminishing rapidly, not
from warfare, but from the expiration
of enlistments. The men are returning
to the States as rapidly as possible,
while no recruit* are being sent to take
the places of those who have served
their time. Nor are there any, rs-en-
llstmsnte. At present In some of the
companies there are hardly twenty
men, which makes the guard duty un
usually heavy. Letters from the sol
diers state that they are homesick for
Atlanta.
