Naw York, Oct. 24.—The market to
day opened at an advance of 3 to 6
point* and ruled steady during the firm
fee- minutes, with the active months
about 3 to 5 points net higher, on cov

Some little buying for long account
which was attracted by the firmness of
the Liverpool market nnd a better feel
ing In the stock market.
The action of the government In re
Hef of the market made a favorable
Impression, but perhaps the main fac
tor, so far as the cotton market was
loncemed, was the showing of Liver
pool and reports of a better demand
from spinners.
Liverpool was 6 1-2 to 7 1-3 points
higher when due to come 1 to 6 pointa
lower, and cables were received from
prominent English trade Interests ex
pressing a favorable opinion of the
market.
The Arm of one of the leading Kng
