Lincoln, Nebr., Dec, 20.—W. J. Bryan
Indicates hie strenuous opposition to
Sc.ii.tarv of War Taft a* a Republi
cs n ' amlidate for the presidency In a
statement In which be say* In part:
‘■If the president threw his strength
to .Senator LaKolIette, who stands for
aggressive reforms, It would b* a pret
ty fight, but the president probably
feels that very little reform can be
hoped for from Republican leaders, and
he has, therefore, selected Secretary
Taft as tbs reformer who will fxplte
the least opposition among the repre
sentatives of predatory wealth.
“Secretary Taft Will, If nominated,
straddle the Issue and aeek to hold the
two wings of the Republican party to
gether. He can not hope to hold all
the radicals that the president would
hold or LaKolIette would hold. Neither
would he alienate as many of the
stand-patters.
"With him as a candidate, the aim
of the Democrats would be to show
that hs does pot stand for any reform,
worth mentioning, and that his admin
istration, if In line with his utterances
thus far, would be colorless.”
