The seventh annual convention of tha
Georgia Retail Grocers' Association
was called to order In tha convention
ball of tha New Kimball Tuesday after
noon at I o'clock. This aeaalon was do
voted largely to organisation and III'
tenlng to an address of walcome from
Mayor Pro Tem John H. Harwell,
his address the mayor pro tern stated
that It was peculiarly fit that he should
deliver such a speech, as for twenty
years he bad served his lima as a re
tail grocer, and could sympathize with
them In all their trlala and trlbulatlonz,
which he declared were many. lie
thought that whoever of the grocers
achieved heaven would surely find
crown awaiting him there.
Mr. Harwell's epeecli waa responded
to by C. W, Raweon, of Atlanta, who
stated at the outset that he waa a bet
ter grocer than speech-maker,
made a humorous reference to the cose
of stage fright which he had the first
time he ever tried to deliver a epeech.
At the conclusion of Mr. Rawson's
speech the president, J. W. Kilpatrick,
announced lha standing committees,
and the session adjourned until I
o'clock Tuesday evening.
Large Attendance In Evening.
There was a much larger attendance
at the evening meeting. 111 delegates
answering to the roll call.
The reports of the president and sec
retary were read and adopted. These
reports showed that the work of thor
ough organization was being pushed In
all parts of the etnte. Atlanta was
shown to be well organized to look af
ter the dead-beating class of trade, the
retailers In the other lines co-operating
with the grocers.
Congressman 1- F. Livingston made
a short talk to the grocera In regard to
the necessity of co-operatloir, and ask
ed them to call on him whenever he
could serve their Interacts In Wash
ington.
The convention Indorsed the trading
stamp act now before the legislature,
as well aa lha scaling garnishment law.

Rome, Gs., July It.—The C. L. King
Manufacturing Company will shortly
enlarge their crate factory to double
ita present size, to meet the Increas
ing demands from the growers In the
Georgia fruit belt. The proposed Im
provements will coat several thou
sand dollars. With the proposed ad
dltlon to the plant here, together i'lth
the company's plant at Paducah, Ky,
the combined product will be over $!,-
000,040 worth of crates annually. Over
a million ordinary crates waa the pro
duction of the Rome plant last year.
Zoo for Mobloy Park.
Mobley park will ahortly have a well
stocked zoo. Manager C. N. Fuller an
nounces that a prairie'wolf Is en rout*
from Oklahoma and that a varied as-
aortment of monkeys I* coming from
New York, and that a bear has also
been obtained. Crowd* of children will
be at the park to welcome the mon
key* on their Arrival. It Is planned to
have a monkey day when they reach

Rom* Postoffles Receipts.
Rome Is prosperous and growing at
an amaslng rate, aa I* evidenced by the
enormous Increase In postal receipts of
11,010.19 for |th* quarter ending July
1 over the same quarter of 1009. The
postal receipts for the months of April,
May and June, 1909, were $0,220.01.
The receipt* for tha asm* months this
year were 37.332.70. This Is an In'
crease of nearly 19 per cent.
