Victoria theater early today, drank
nan of the contents of a bottle of car
bolic acid. Policeman O't'onnor, who
saw the woman In lime, knocked the
bottle from her hand before she got all
the poison, and then forced her to
drink a quantity of milk as an anil-
dole. He saved her life, according to
the hospital doctors.

Tom Sawyer died In the county Jail
here yesterday afternoon. He had been
delirious for a few daya, and had be
come eo dangerous and unmanageable
that ha was yeaterday morning placed
In the county Jail here to await lunacy

bul continued delirious, and about
I o'clock he died. He la survived by a
wife and Iwo children.

Conyers, Gn„ Aug. The Thlrty-
flfth Georgia regiment held Its reunion
at this place yesterday, the guests of
Ihe Conyers Chapel, U. D. C. There
were present thlrty-flve survivor* of
Ihe regiment and two or three hundred
veterans of other organisations. The
veteran* were taken In charge by W.
P. McDaniel, master of ceremonies, who
had them assemble at the court-house,
where they were provided with badges
and formed for march to the new rock
warehouse, where the exercises were
conducted.
General C. A. Evan* delivered the
address of the occasion and It was
very much enjoyed by all present. After
the general had flnlshed hla address a
bountiful basket dinner and barbecue
was partaken of.
Several short addresses were made
by local and visiting veterans, and u
camp was organlxcd during tha after
noon.

Workmen opened here yeaterday morn.

After ihe opening ceremonies a short
organising meeting was held, and then

of their members, Harry H. Morris,
sheriff of the city of Augusts.
After the 'cue and later In the after
noon the delegates were token for a
■pin around the .car lines, and then to
Lake View, where they were given n
boat trip over the walere. They had to
be on the go all the afternoon, and to
day they will be ready to again take
up the buslnesa matters before the
grand lodge.

Columbus, Go., Aug. t.—The Wood
Campbell distillery, located In Girard,
was totally destroyed by Are Tuesday
night, the loss being about K.000. The
•till had only been In operation about
a month, and Mr. Campbell, the owner,
had not cleared the Interest on the
money Invested. The Are Is believed
to have been Incendiary'. Eighteen bar
rels of whisky were saved, but a large
lot of bottled goods waa destroyed.

nual reunion of the United Confederate
Veteran*, the United Daughters of the
Confederacy anil the Son* of Confed
erate Veterans began here today with
large attendances al the aesslons of
each of the organisations. Governor
Blanchard delivered the address of wel
come on behalf of the state, and Maybr
W. 11. Bynum for the city. The re
union Is being held at Garlg Hall.
This evening there will be n flower
parade and at night tableaus, songs
and other patriotic features, conclud
ing with* a dance. The reunion will
end tomorrow with a parade of the
veteran* during the day and a grand
ball at night.

Lake Charles, La., Aug 6.—Charlea
Curtis has been lodged In the parish
Jail, under medical treatment, to await
the outcome of a desperate attempt at
suicide. Curtis, at Oakdale, slashed
his throat through the larynx, but aa
death did not come quick enough he
stabbed himself twice tn the right
breast, each time reaching the lung,
using a pocket knife, and will probably
die.
