Valdosta, pai^'ov. 26.—The advance
gitufd of fl£|cfiai*H ‘to l he* South Geor
gia MerhftffTsd conference, which ineetH
here this week, composed of committee
members and workers whose duties re
quire their pretence here before the
opening of the conference, have al
ready begun to arrive, anti by Motlday
night nearly all of them will have
reached the city.
While the opening session of the
conference will mot be held until Wed
nesday morning, there will be Impor
tant committee meetings on Tuesday,
where much work preliminary to the
conference sessions will be considered
and disposed of. Indications arc that
this will be the busiest conference ever
hold in the state, and one of the most
Important. 9
The condition of the churches
throughout the bounds of the Confer
ence Is almost without exception of a
most satisfactory character. There are
no dissensions In the conference to be
settled.
Large Mission Work.
During the week about seventy-live
young ministers will make reports to
the conference on the progress made
during the year In their conference
studies. The field wofk of the confer
ence will he reviewed by the board ot
missions and special attention paid to
extending the work to points now not
supplied, and In strengthening the
corps of field workers. No other con
ference equals the South Georgia ftt
missions and mission work, and tlie
Valdosta church takes high rank In
that respect. Indeed, every department
of church work here, including the Ep-
worth league and other societies, re
port Increased membership and larger
Interest during the past conference
year. All of the church assessments
have been met, a $5,000 debt on the netv
church building wiped out and an In
crease of $500 In the pastor's salary
paid.
One Hundred Changes.
Ii Is said that the conference this
year will probably make about one
hundred changes In pastors throughout
the bounds, though undeV the rules of
the conference, which allow a pastor to
serve a church continuously for four
years, It would be necessary this year
to make only six changes In assign
