Cancer is a malignant diseosa, deriving
its name from Karkfim, a Greek word sip*

swollen veins bean no remote rwemblacc to
that animal, it occurs in two distinct stages,
vis the Scbirrus of Occult Cancer, and the
open or true ulcerated Cancer. It is an
hereditary disease, depending upon a weak
and morbid state cf the patient, immediate
ly arising from corruption of the v tality of
the fluid jn ij sdid, Ir >m defective nutrition
and lecretk-n. It may remain in the first
stage for years; a single pale, hard, eold tu
mor; bnt it never retrograde. It oommonly
advances to a soft, suppurated and ulcerated
state, affecting tbs neighboring glandee, and
gradually poisoning the whole system. The
general health of tha patient yields, and, tin-
able to successfully eemtut the infection, na

is the ordinary bLtory of the disease; unaL
