Sugars. —There has been a good demand for
Louisiana Sugar during the week, for both tbe

The market for Uplands was firm at too do e i f
our last report, and the transactions on Friday
were to a moderate extent, at full prices. Un
Saturday morning news was received by a vessel
at this port four days later from Liverpool, staling
an improvement in that market of ,a id p ,j r lb.,
with large, sales. This information was in ilia
hands of but few persons, who immediately entered
the market, and the transactions of the day amount
ed to upwards of 3,000, bales at an improvement
of 4 a ic. per lb. On Monday tbe market was
more quiet during the morning, but in the after
noon very considerable sales were made at full
rates. On Tuesday there was less doing, though
sellers were very steamy in their views. On Wed
nesday there was a very general attendance of
buyers, and the sales wen, again very large. \ es
terday the transactions were more limited, bur
prices were fully maintained. Throughout t!.e
week the market has been very much excited . end
the sales have in consequence been at very irre

MACON, J an. op— Cotton. —Our market for
the last two or three days has been in an excited
state, from the belief Ili.it later a;-couuts (not pub

NEW YORK, Jan. 21.—1 n this market, the

NEW ORLEANS,Jan- IC.p.m.— Colton. —The
past week closed with a very animated demand
for Cotton, and prices had recovered what they
had lost during the early part of the week. Trans
actions during ttie present have been irregular,
as is generally the ca-c when the market is more
undei ibe control of the speculation than under
that of the legitimate export demand. 'The mar
ket closes without spirit, the sales nf the day
amounting to only 1000 hales. The total of the
week’s safe amount to 26,000 bales, as follows,
including a list of 5090 bales sold on Tuesday, the
disposal of which was not generally known, viz:
Monday 2000, Tuesday 9000, Wednesday 2500,
Thursday 7000, Friday 4500 and to-day 1000 bales.

Sugar. —'The market has been dull and droop
ing during the w hole of the week, and closes w ith
out any spirit. The decline lias been principal

still finding ready sales at former rates. We

Molasses. —Prices have fluctuated during the
week between 244 a 25c., a prime article nearly
always commanding 25c. The market closes
heavjlv at ibis same rale, and the stock on the
platform isunusually large. Arrived during the
week 2953 bids. Exported. 2030 bids.
Corn. —The demand has continued very active,
arni the sales of the week are reported at about 55,-
000 sacks, which includes one lot of 50,000 bush
els to arrive, and many resales as the receipts have
not admitted of such large operations. The pi ice
opened at 68 a 70e. and continued at that rate until
Friday, when 75c. was freely paid. To-day, how
ever, the market is less firm, and 5000 sacks have
been sold at 70c. Arrived during the week, 24,-
444 sacks. Exported, 13,385 sacks.
Whisky —The arrivals have been heavy, but
the demand has, notwithstanding, been fair, and
sales have bee:. . -king at 187 a 184 c. for Recti

the week 6137 bids. Exported, 358 bids,

and the demand having been active, prices have
advanced, and Sides have been selling at 54 a 54c.

hard. —A. very steady demand has prevailed
during the week, and some 300 bbls have changed i

been equally brisk, and 1000 kegs No. I. were
sold this morning at Clc.
