failin'; off in the amount of sales, which summed
up 5000 hales, including a li-t of 1236 bales, sold
on Tuesday, hut not made pub ic. On 'Thursday
ihcertquiry continued fair, hut the light supply
offering, and the increased firmness of holders, re- ;
stricted transactions to some 2SIX) hales, at very ■
full prices. Vesterday there was ratlter a better j
supply of cotton on sale, hut still higher prices
were claimed hv holders, as m >re favorable ac
counts from the North, together with the rapid tie
crease in the receipts, have imparted to them in- j
creased confidence. Under these circumstances j
the sales were about 4000 hales, making a total
for the three days of 11,800 bales, and for the week
of 28,8(H) bales, taken for various markets, both at
home and abroad. As regards prices, they hive
not only been fully maintained generally, but are
at least an ic higher on the middling an i good
middling qualities, which are most in request, than
at the date of our last report, aril our figures have
been altered in conformity, though if is proper to
remark that the closing rates were fully up to our
outside range, and that holders generally were
asking a still further advance. 'There have also
been sum" sales of the higher classes of cottons,
which show nearly a correspond! g amendment in I
those descriptions. 'The receipts up to this date in
the month of March last year, excluding the arri- j
vals for and Florida, were 77,1«5 hai*s, ’
and during the same tmir this year 30,472 bales; (
■bowing a falling off of 46,643 hales in a period
of thirteen days.
