GROCERIES.—There has been a fair business
for the season of the year done w ith the country
this week, and we hope to sec it gradually increase,
ns the stocks of our merchants are and gene
rally bought on the most Asa
matter of course they are enabled to dispose of
them at moderate profits. There is no scarcity of
any article in the Grocery line that we hear of.
DRY GOODS. —The same remarks are appli
cable to our Dry Goods merchants. The stock
held by them this season is much heavier than for
several years past, and it is well assorted.
BACON.—This article has still a downward
tendency. The receipts this week have been to a
fair extent by w agons, and sales have been report
ed to us of about 20,000 lbs at 8c the hog round.
FLOUR—Not much enquiry for this article this
week, and the only sale reported to us is a lot of
about 40 bbls. Country, from store, at ssi per bid.
CORN —No change to notice in prices this week,
nor have we any large sales to report. \Ve con
tinue to quote 65 a 70—the latter price for sacks—
sacks included.
COFFEE —This arlirle j« looking tip and hold
ers have been able to realize a shade on last weeks
price?—sales have been reported to us of about 230
£ bags Rio at 81 a 9c. perlb.
SUGARS—Fairstock ofNew Orlcarns on hand,
and selling by the hhd. at 8 a 9c. according to
quality.
SALT—Good stock on hand—demand limited.
Retailing from stores at 40 to 45c. per bushel ac
cording to quantity.
THE RIVER—Is in heatable order. Not much
Cotton offering to Charleston or Savannah. No
change to notice in ihe rate of freights.

quiry for Upland vcslerdav, appeared to have
subsided all of a sudden; the market was without
purchasers, and the entire sales of the day con
sisted of 71 bales,in one lot, at 11 cents, and 11
bales at 10f.
lilce. — Ihe Rice market also was very quiet.
Sales about 350 bbls. without change in prices,
the same ranging from s3* a s3}, for a good fair
article.
NEW YORK, April 3— Cotton. —Shipper* have
not yet entered the market; it consequently re
mains quiet, but as holders are offering very spar
ingly, prices are fully supported. 'The sales are
2 50 bales, of which 2100 bales were Upland and
Florida, thus: —
Ordinary to good ordinary, 19; a 101; middling to
good midding. lUr a III; middling fair to fair, ill
a 121; fully fair to good fair, 12; a 13.
Molasses —As comrnanication with the interior
has not yet been resumed, the market is inactive,
the trade buying o*tly to supply immediate wants.
Among the sales we notice about 500 lihds. Cuba
M uscovado at 26 a 31 cents for common to prime;
200 bbls. do. 32; 130 hhds. Cardenas, received
coastwise, 24; 15!) hhds. and 290 hhla. New Or
leans and New Iberia, 35; a 36; and 150 hhds.
Trinidad Cuba, 31.4 mos.
Sugars —There has been a good demand since
our last for Muscovadoes, f r which however, a
decline of one-quarter of a cent per lb. his been
submit ed to, the market closing pretty firmly
The sales comprise 150 hhds. New Orleans at 7 a
74 cents; 50 Porto Rieo, 7; a 8; 1000 Cuba, 63 a
7;; 100 St. Croix, a 9i; and 1200 bxs. Havana,
at 6J a 71 for Brown, and 8; a9l. 4 mos. for White.

ton, from New York, 24th ult., returned on the Ist
inst , having on the 26th in the gale, lost foretop
sail, foretopgallant sail—shipped a heavy sea,
which stove the water casks and did other dam
