THIS valuable preparation combines. all the
medicinal virtues of those articles, which lon g
experience has proved to possess the most safe
and efficient alterative and deobstruent properties,
or the of Scrofula, King’s Evil, White Swell
ings, Ulcers, Scrofulous, Cancerous and Indolent
Tumours; Mercurial and Syphilitic Affections, Rheu
matism. (rout, Srurvey, Neuralgia or Tie- Doulou

Enlargements of the Bones, Joints, (ffamfs. or Liga
ments or of the Ovaries, Liver, Spleen, KuMcus, fyc.
All the diseases of the Slew, such as Tetter , Ring- |
worm, Biles, Pimples, Carbuncles, SfC, Dyspepsia 1
and Liver Complaint, Nervous Diseases, Dropsical j
Swelling*. Constitutional Disorders and diseases ori
ginating frpm a depraved or Impure state «ff the
Blood or other liuids of the body.
The proprietor of this Alterative Would most rer
■pectfiilly assure the public that he has not offered
this preparation to their notice without due reflec
tion, and close and rigid study, nor until after I
twelve years’ experience had manifested its great 1
superiority over every other article of the kind, — I
and he now recommends it with confidence, fully !
believing that the above combination of medicines l
will effectually eradicate from the system a class j
of diseases some of which have heretofore been con
sidered incurable.
He has prescribed it in almost every variety of
diseases and with unparalleled success, especially
in cutaneous affections, cancerous, scrofulous and
scorbutic diseases, and diseases originating from
obstruction or enlargement of the glands or impuri
ty of the blood.
Cancer and Cancerous Tumors.
He has used this preparation in upwards of twen
ty well defined cases of cancer and cancerous tu
mors, and in every case but one with perfect and
entire success.
Bronchocele or Goitre, (Swelled Neck.)
He has prescribed it in over a hundred cases of
goitre, and it has never failed in a single instance to
completely remove the disease. Not a solitary
case of failure. All were cured.
The success he has met with in curing hroncho
cele and cancerous affections has convinced him
that these dangerous and horrible diseases may be 1
removed with as much certainty as Fever and
Ague. He does not wish to be understood as say
ing that they can be cured as soon as Fever and
Ague, but with as much certainty; and further, that
be has good reason for believing that this prepara
tion will not only cure these diseases when formed,
but that it destroys the virus or poisonous principle
lurking in the system, from which that peculiar
class of diseases, as well as that of scrofula emanate
Scrofula—King’s Evil.
This preparation has been used in numerous
cases of scrofula, King’s Evil, and scrofulous swell
ings, and always with the most decided success.
Skin Diseases.
He lias prescribed it in a great variety of cutane
ous affections, find found it successful in curing salt
rheum or tetter, biles, blotches, pimples, morphew'
and jaundiced skin, & c.
Dyspepsia .and Liver Complaint.
It has been used in numerous cases of liver com
plaint and Dyspepsia, and with the happiest effect.
Tic-Douloureux.
It has been used in several Cases of Neuralgia,
And in every case il was Siifefcfessful.
Rheumatism.
This preparation has been prescribed in a great
irtany cases of chronic rheumatism, and in every
case in >vhich it Was used until.the system became
affected by the udealfcint;, the disease Was removed.
Gout.
A number of cases of gout have been cured by
this preparation. In one of these cases, thfe man
bad been afflicted with it so severely for thirteen
t ears as to entirely disable him from business, and
sot file months immediately previous to his taking
tlie Alterative he had hCfen Confined to his room;
but before he had finished the third bottle, he was
enabled to walk about the streets and soon after re
turned to his business, from which he had so long
been excluded by his affliction.
Dropsical Swallings.
This medicine increases the powers of digestion
excites the absorbents into 1 . healthy exercise, by
which watery or calcareous depositions, and all un
natural enlargements are reduced. It imparts
tone and vitality to the whole System, removing
sick and morbid headaches, giddiness, wandering
pains and nervous affections.
In fact, in every case where the niedieine has
been taken for some time, no matter for what pur-
Eose, the general health of the patient has always
een improved by it.
In conclusion, the proprietor would sary that some
of the most astonishing cases of skin diseases, can
cer, bronchocele, and scrofula, have been cured by
(KiS medicine, that have ever been recorded; but
want of room in this sheet precludes their publica
tion at this time.
Cancer.
An interesting case cured by Jayne's Alterative .
fn the spring of 1831, a cancerous tumor appear
ed inf the right breast of Mrs. Phoebe, wife of Peter
Stretch, of Salem N. J. It was examined by many
Physicians, and was considered by ail as cancerous,
and besides bore all the characteristic marks of
one. All probable means of removing it were used
without the slightest benefit. It continued to in
crease both in size and painfulness, until all hope
of saving her life, but by a painful operation, was
abandoned, which, after a consultation of eminent
Physicians, was performed, Jan. Ist, 1832. by Dr.
John Rhea Barton, assisted by Dr. Redman, the
proprietor, and two other medical gentlemen. The
whole and entire right breast was removed, and af
ter examination of the tumor, was pronounced by
all present a cancer of the most malignant charac
ter. In about three irionth&> after enduring incredi
ble sufferings, she was enabled, though broken in
spirit, to get about again. She remained feeble,
and her general health was exceedingly had, as in
deed it had been for several years before. In the
spring of 1837, upwards of five years after her breast
had been removed, a painful tnmor made its ap
pearance on the right side, innrrediatety over the
part formerly occupied by the nipple of the right
breast, previous to its removal, 'l'bis tnnfor steadi
ly increased for several months, and became so
painful as to deprive her of rest. The glands un
der the right arm were enlarged; and seirrhus, and
ahard, irregular, and at times painful tumour, ap
peared in the left breast. No operation could now
arrest the disease. Indeed her whole body appear-* -
td to be a mass of disease. Her case was consid
ered hopeless. She was of a very scrofulous habit,
eoth her parents having died of Pulmonary con
bumption. The experiment was now made with
shis Alterative. It w r as at first given in small doses,
three times a day, and the doses very gradually,
but steadily increased daily, as long as she took it,
which was about six months, and the skin over and i
around the tumour was wet night and morning with
a strong solution of lodine and Hydriodate Potash.
The tumour continued increasing in size for about
*ix weeks, and was at times very painful, when the
pain suddenly ceased altogether, and the tumour \
swelled out at the base, and became soft, and then
began to diminish,.and continued gradually decreas
ing until every vestige of disease was removed.— j
The tumour in her left breast, and those in her 1
right exiila were also dispersed. No cancerous or
scrofulous tumours ever appeared afterwards; and
her general health, which had been so bad for four
teen years as to make life a burthen, was effectu
ally and permanently restored. The proprietor is
in possession of the diseased breast, and those who
choose may examine it. He would also say that
be could mention over a dozen cases equally inter
esting, wherein his Alterative has subdued cancer
and cancerous tumours, but he has not room here
to record them.
Mrs. Sarah Young, of Quinton's Bridge, N. J., had .
a goitrous tumour on the left side of her windpipe,
as large as the half of an orange, which was cured
by using this Alterative for about four months.
Miss R S——, South Fourth-street, Phila
delphia, was also cured of an enlargement of the
throat, which filled the entire space between the
chin and breast-hone, and extended around on each
aide of her neck to behind her ears, and from her
ears to her shoulders, and produced awful deformi
ty. It commenced growing when she was hut five
years old, and continued gradually to increase un
til she was nineteen, at which time she commenced
using this Alterative, which she took for seven
months, which entirely reduced the enlargement;
and she has now as smooth and pretty a neck as can
be found. The proprietor is not at liberty to give
her name in print, but will refer persons to her.

HOW AWFULLY CAPABLE,
TO NEGLECT USING THE GENUINE
DR. TAYLOR S BALSAM OF lUVERWORT.
375 Bowery, N. Y.
MUST those be who have Pulmonary Consump
tion, or any affection of the Lungs, Liver or
Chest, after reading the following letter, just re
ceived from a most respectable inhabitant of West
chester County New York.
Takrytown, Aug. 9,18-14.
Dear Doctor—lt is difficult to find words to ex
press the gratitude which 1 feel towards you for
the interest you have taken to relieve me in my
distress. In the year 1812 I contracted a heavy
cold, which finally settled on my lungs; in a few
months after, 1 commenced coughing and raising
offensive matter, which smelt very had. Having
heard that Sherman’s Lozenges were good for a
coughs I tried a few boxes of them, hut they had
not the least effect on me. I then called in the
best physicians in the place, who attended me a
r few months, but without success; I then saw an ad
vertisement in one of the city papers of Wistar’s
Balsam of Wild Cherry, of which I purchased three
bottles, at the corner of Fulton and Nassau streets,
but I could not perceive the least beneficial effect
from it, on the contrary I think it was a great in
jury to me. Shortly after using it, 1 commenced
raising blood in large quantities; I was taken down
sick and confined to the house for three months,
during which time I lost my appetite and fell away
very fast; I was then induced to consult Dr. Curti’s
of New York, (one of the best physicians in the
city,) but he could do me no good. 1 again became
worse, and was confined to the house all last winter
and spring, and I gave up all hope of ever getting
any better, as I again raised blood and my cough
was very severe, together with a pain in my
breast and under the shoulder blade. My friends
now gave up all hope of my recovering, and thought
every day was the last. About this time 1 heard
of your BALSAM OF LIVERWORT being good
for consumption, hut I was like many others, and
was fearful that it might be a regular humbug; I
however finally consented to try it, as I thought it
could make me no worse. My brother then pur
chsed a bottle of it at 375 Bowery, N. Y., and
commenced taking it, and by the time I had used
one bottle full 1 could sleep all night, and in the
morning I had an appetite for my breakfast. I still
keep on taking it and find great benefit from it—the
pain in my breast is entirely gone, and I raise no
more blood. Within the last two months I have
gained in weight six jiounds and much in strength.
1 would therefore, advise all who have any affec
tion of the Lungs or Liver to try the Genuine Dr.
1 aylor’s Balsam of Liverwort, lor I truly believe
it to he the best remedy in existence for diseases
of the Lungs or Liver. Should any one doubt the
above statement relative to your valuable medicine,
et him call on me, and I will convince him of its
virtues, lours, respectfully, DE REVERE.

GALVANIC RINGS AND
Magnetic Fluid.
rpIIIS remarkable invention, which has received
X the almost universal approbation of the Medi
cal Profession of Great Britain, comprises an en
tirely new application of Galvanism, as a remedial
agent, by means of which the ordinary Galvanic
Batteries, Electric and Magnetic Machines, See.,
are entirely dispensed with, and the mysterious
powers ol Galvanism applied without any of the
objections which are inseparable from the general
mode now in use. The strong doses, and at irreg
ular intervals, in which Galvanism is applied by the
Machines, has been pronounced altera fair and im
partial trial, to be decidedly injurious, and it was to
remedy this radical defect, (hat this new applica
tion was projected, which after unceasing toil and
perseverance has been brought to its present state
ot perfection. The Galvanic Riiigs answer all the
purposes of the most expensive Machines, and in
many other respects are more safe and certain in
accomplishing the desired effect.
The Galvanic Rings, used in connection with (lie
Magnetic F*uid. r , are, confidently recommended in
all disorders which, arise from an enfeebled or tin
healthy state of the nervous or vita! system , arid those
complaints are among the most painful and univer
sal to which we are subject. They arise, without
exception, to one single cause—a derangement of
the Nervous system —and it was in these cases that
other “remedies,” having so often failed, a new
agent was greatly needed, which it is confidently
believed, has been found in the proper and judi
cious application of Galvanism.
The Galvanic Ring* have been used tvith entire
success in all cases of Rheumatism, acute or chronic,
applying to the head, face or limbs; Gout, Tic-
Doloreux, Toothache, Bronchitis, Vertigo, Nervous
or Sick Headache, Indigestion, Paralyses, Palsy,
Epilepsy, Fits, Cramp, Pa/jdtSidofi of the, Heart' Ap
poplexy, Stiffness of Joints, Spinal Complaints, Lum
bago, Neuralgia, Nerrovs Tremors, Dizziness of the
Head, Pains in the Chest and Side, General Debil
ity, Deficiency of NeiTOus and Physical Energy, and
all Nervous Disorders. In cases of confirmed Dys
pepsia, which is simply a nervous derangement of
the digestive organs, they have been found equally
successful. Their extraordinary effects upon the
system must be witnessed tube believed, and as a
certain Preventive for the preceding complaints
they are equally recommended. The itings are of
different prices, being made of all sizes, and of va
rious ornamental patterns, and can be worn by the
most delicate female without the slightest incon
venience. In fact the sensation is rather agreea
ble than otherwise.
The Galvanic Beltsy Bracelets, Bands,
Garters, Necklaces, Ac.
In some cases of a vei-y severe character and of
long standing the power as applied by the. Qf If f nit
Rings is not sufficient tH hrfest tlife progress of dis
ease and ultimately to restore health. The improv
ed modification in the Galvanic Belts, Bracelets,
See., entirely remedies this objection ; any degree
of power that is required can readily he obtained,
and no complaint which the mysterious agent of
Galvanism can effect will fail to be permanently re
lieved. These articles are adapted to the waist, arms,
wrists, limbs, ancles, or any part of the body with
perfect convenience. The Galvanic Necklaces, are
used with greater benefit in cases of Bronchitis or
affections of the throat generally ; also in cases of
Nervous Deafness ; and with almost uniform success
as a preventive for Apoplexy, Epilejjtic Fits, and
similar complaints.
CHRISTIE’S MAGNETIC FLUID.
Is issued in connection with the Galvanic Rings,
and all their modifications. This composition has
been pronounced by the French Chemists to he
one of the most extraordinary discoveries of mod
ern science. If is believed to possess a remarkable
power of rendering the Nerves sensitive to Galvanic
action, by these means causing a circulation of the
influence at the seat of disease, and thus giving ra
pid and permanent relief. No other composition in
chemistry is known to produce the same effect or
to impart a similar property to the nervous system
by means of an outward local application. The
Magnetic Fluid contains nothing capable of the
slightest injury, its application is agreeable, and it
is as harmless in its action as it is beneficial in its
result. The combined inventions are in every way
perfectly harmless; they are at prices within reach
of all, and the discoverer only requests a fair trial,
a- a test of their surprising efficacy and permanent
benefit.

From the late lamented Captain Holmes, Georgia
Regiment.
Br \/.os St. Jago, July 24, 18Ifi.
- Dr. M. Wooilruff- —Dear Sir ; —I owe you an apol
ogy for not acknowledging before this the receipt
of a box of your Dysentery Cordial, which you had
the kindness to send me while in Columbus, for the
use of my corps.
I have found it a most valuable Medicine, and
only regret that I have not a supply of it. Where
ever my men have followed directions they have
invariably found relief. We have suffered and are
suffering much from Dysentery occasioned by the
wretched water we have to drink, but jour (dor
dial is restoring all to their wonted health and vigor.
With my sincere thanks for your kindness, ami
best wishes for your success, I am your obedient
servant.
ISAAC HOLMES, Capt. Macon Guards.
From Hon. H. IU. Hilliard, late U. S. Minister to
Belgium.
Dr. 11 oodrujfi —My Dear Sir:—A few days since
I received the Cordial which you were good enough
to send me. My friend, Col. Seaborn Jones, would
hare part of it i the fbmainder 1 have laid aside for
use when 1 hiay need it.
On the other page I have added a statement of
my appreciation of it as a Medicine
... Haying H?bd. the Cordial of Br; M. Woodruff. I
do not hesitate to pronounce it a most valuable
Medicine. Indeed, for such affections of the bow
els as we sometimes suffer with in the South, I
know nothing at all equal to it.

IN offering this valuable medicine to the people

be added, who hear their testimony to its value.—
, Dr. Henry Branham has used this medicine in his
own case, and has prescribed it to mai\y, ; others,
gives it as his opinion, that it is one of safest
and most valuable medicines that can be used in
imperfect digestion, liver complaints, constipation
and irregular state of the bowels. It is useful in
billions complaints, to persons recovering from bil
lions fevers.and in sick or nervous head-ache. To
pregnant women, who are subject to costiveness,
this medicine is well suited. In regulating the state
of the stomach and bowels, and promoting digestion,
it is particularly useful.
I could append a long list of certificates, hut for

DR. LE ROY’S •
VEGETABLE UNIVERSAL PILLS.
I’HE startling drawback on nearly all Medicinal
Agents has ever been that in their process of pur
gation and purification, they have also Debilitated
the System. Hence Purgative Medicines have al
ways been regarded as at best but a Neressani
Frit; Patients resorting to them for the relief of
one disease at the expense of another. To obviate
this, Physicians have long sought for an Agent that
would at the same time
PURGE PURIFY AND STRENGTHEN.
But their efforts were nearly fruitless, and they
had almost despaired of success when the labors of
science and research, were rewarded by a discov
ery which fully realized the fondest desires of the
Medical Faculty, and which is justly regarded as
one of the most important Triumphs that Pharmacy
has ever achieved. This important desideratum is
named c
Dr. Le Roy’s Vegetable Universal Pills.
Which Purify the Blood, and remove all corrupt
awl vitiated humors, and unhealthy accumulations from
the body in a manner never before rivalled, and
which yet produce no weakness or lassitude what
ever, but on the contrary, tone the Stomach, and
invigorate the constitution during the progress oT
their operation. Dr. Le Roy’s Pills, in fact, unite
those heretofore irreconcilable, but roost desirable
qualities, Evacuation and Invigoration, for they are
at the same time a STRENGTHENING PURGA
TIVE, AND A PURIFYING TONIC.
1 he two paincipal ingredients in Dr. Le Roy’s
Pills are
WILD CHERRY A SARSAPARILLA.
So prepared that each promotes the beneficial ef
fect ot the other, the former strengthening, while
the latter, through its union with various vegetable
ingredients, evacuates and purifies; thus they su
perinduce no torpidity or lassitude of the the Diges
tive Functions, and hence their operations are at
tended by no Ke-action or Subsequent Costiveness.
Dr. Le Roy's Pills are the most active and search
ing Medicine in existence. They at once attack
the very root of Diseases, and their action is so
prompt that in an hour or two after they are taken,
the patient is aware of their good effects. They
not only operate on the Blood, hut also on the chyle,
ot which the Blood is formed, and this secures good
blood Irom the iountain head, moreover, they pro
duce neither nausea, griping or debility, and as a
family medicine they have no rival. Price 25 cts.

jITY EAU DIVINE DE VENUS and NYMPH
■i*X SOAP,composed of an Eastern Botanical dis
covery of surprising efficacy, for rendering the
Skin soft and fair, as well as imparting a delicate
roseate hue to the complexion.
As a creator and conservator of that most distin
guishing charm of female loveliness, a transparent
fair skin, Jules HaueTs Nymph Soap of Eau Divine
De Venus may be said to exert an almost magical
Power. Composed for the most part of Oriental
Balsamic Plants, to the utter exclusion of all mine
ral admixture, it is distinguished medicinally for its
extremely bland, purifying and soothing action on
the skin; and by acting on the pores and minuto se
cretory vessels, expels all Impurities from the sur
face, allays every tendency to imflammation, and
by this method alone, effectually.dissipates ail red
ness, tan, prinples, freckles, sunburn and other un
sightful cutaneous visitations, so inimical to female
lovliness. Its use will change the most bilious com
plexion into one of radiant whiteness; while om the
neck, hands and arms it bestows a delicacy and
fairness which its continued use will happily pro
tect, and every appearance of youthful charm, to «
the most advanced period of life. For sale, wholuM
