that about 8 miles from Augusta there is ap
parent'y an inxlianstable quarry of excellent Gran
ite, which has been buried in tbe bowels of the
earth for ages past, and has hitherto been of no
service. In view of tins, the subscribers have de
termined that this excellent building material shall
remain no longer dormant lor tiie want ot hard
knocks to render it suitable for building. There
fore we have taken a lease of the Quarry, and en
tered into co-partnership for the purpose ot carry
ing on tiie Stone Cutting business in all its branch
es!" We will lay the Stone down in any part of
Augusta, at the Boston prices, with the freight and
commission from that place to this added. We arc
now prepared to receive orders for Fronts of any
description, also Window Caps and Sills, Door do.,
Edge Stone, Gutter Stone, and in fact all kinds of
work that Granite was ever used for.

STEAM-BOAT AT AUCTION.

dit of three, six and twelve months, approved pa
per. This Boat is now in first rate order, having
during the past summer been thoroughly overhauled
at great expense ; she is copper fastened and cop
pered, 103 feet long, ISA feet beam, 7A hold. Her
Engine was built by Messrs. Watchman and Pratt,
Baltimore, four boilers, 24 feel long, 34 in diame
ter, stroke 9 feet, diameter cylinder 16g inches,
high pressure, engine very compactly arranged, 70
to 80 horse power.
This Boat is peculiarly adapted as a Towing
Boat, at which business she was very successful in
Wilmington, N. C., where she was built. The hull
«f the boat is of best material, live oak, cedar and
white oak framed, plank of yellow pine—and to
any port or place where a towing steam-boat is
wanted, there are few that would be found superior
to tiie Clarendon. Cne of her boilers is new, and
also he greater part of the engine.

Painting and Pencil Drawing, India Finishing,
Fruit and Marine Painting, sketching from nature,
&c.
Mr. R. has a number of specimens from his own
pencil, which be will be happy to exhibit lu nil who
will favor him with a visit. He lias devoted much
time to his collection of materials, studies, designs.
Sic. His pupils will therefore have the advantage
of the best subjects for the pencil, also the use
of many valuable elementary works and essays
upon tin: art.
His objei t will be to convey a thorough and prac
tical knowledge of the study ; not a superficial ac
quaintance with the theory of lire subject, which
