Pavilion, New ISrightoii.
TItHIS magnificent establishment, whose archi-
A fectnral beauty and arrangement competes
Vrith any other on the continent, having been fnr
iiished by the Pavilion Association, opens as a Ho
tel, (under the charge of the subscriber,) for the re
ception of boarders, on Monday next, the 10th hist.
Its situation is considered, by all who view it, ns
Ihe most eligible of any in the hay of New Y'ork, for
the purposes intended. The Pavilion consists of
four edifices, united by corridors, piazzas, and col
onnades. The centre building is three stories high,
' surmounted by a como and observatory, supported
lT,y columns. The centre building, 60 feet by 80,
contains ten rooms adapted to be used ns parlors,
taloons, or drnu ing rooms, and twelve bed rooms.—
‘ln the rerr of this building, connected by a corridor,
■' is the great saloon, banqueting or ball room,Bß leet
I by 40, with a splendid dome ceiling. The basement
> under this room contains kitchens of the most ap
proved .construction, store-rooms, larders, cellars,
vaults, ice-house,&c. Connected With the centre
I building by grand colonnade and corridor, are two
wings, each 160 feet by 50, two stories high, besides
basements and attics, containing thirty three rooms
and chambers.
The front of the whole is adorned by throe mag
nificent porticoes, forming with the connecting plat
lorms a grand promenade, 231 feet in length by 15
in widlh. The perspective view formed I. rough its
vista of columns, is one of the most splendid that
tan bo imagined The edifice is surrounded by
grounds on which the hand of improvement is ac
tively engaged.
Os all the bathing places and summer residences
on our seaboard. New Brighton must soon become
the most dislinguished, as it is already the most at
tractive, from tho purity of the atmosphere, the beau
ty of its position, the elegance of its buildings, its
- convenience and accommodation for sea bathing,
and the variety of its amusements: while its proximo
tylo the commercial emporium affords facilities to
the man of business, as well as to those who are in
pursuit of health or of pleasure, which it is believed
cannot be found so well united elsewhere Excel
lent steamboats ply hourly between this and the -
city, and perform the trip in 20 to 30 minutes.
New Brighton, Staten Island, is situated on an
undulating surface, rising gradually from tho water;
comprehending, to the eastward, a noble view of the
bay of New York, with the shipping and porls ol
the cities ofNew York and Brooklyn, and Long Is
land to the Narrows. On the north, a prospect of
the Hudson Riverlo the Palisades, including Hobo
ken, and Jersey city; while towards the west, may
be seen Newark and its hay, down to Elizabethporlj
with the range of Bergen woods.
Staten Island is about sixteen miles long, with an
average breadth of about lour miles; it is well wood
ed, and its surface finely varied by lull and dale,
with good'roads in all directions; from every emi
nence, the mott magnificent panoramic views ofships
and spires, villas and groves, sea and hay, country
am | city, present themselves. This variety of seen- i
ery throughout the island renders the rides and t
walks particularly inviting: and interesting; while
its woods and waters afford amusement to the
sportsman. Tho air is remarkable for its salubrity,
as numerousinstances of longevity among its inhabi
tants fully attest, and indicates its importance to
those wbodeaire to retain or recover the most ines-
Uimable of earthly blessings, health.
This establishment will continue open through
oat the year, and the terms for board and other ac
commodations will be such as to make it an object j
of economy, as well as comfort, to the citizens of ,
New York, to select it as a permanent residence.— (
The breakfast hour in summer is at 7i o’clock, and ,
dinner at 4 o’clock. The steamboat which leaves (
New York at 31 o’clock, reaches New- Brighton be
fore dinner is announced. The last boat to town
passes at a } before 7 in the evening, and the first in
the morning at a i before 8 o’clock. Board for the
summer season will not exceed eight dollars per
week. Children and servants half price.
