Hon. Jus. H. Blouut was nominated
unanimously on tiro flint ballot.
This is an honor to tho able states
manship and pure patriotism of that
gentleman of which ho may well he
proud. No Congressman in Hie
Slate—none in tiro Union, has Imd
S3 noil an endorsement put upon his
career through tho last two sessions
of Congress, in which were enacted
the moat trying parts within the
history of tho Republic. ■ Xu those
dark, and uncertain days, when it
seemed that nono savo a prophet
could foresee the result of a single
net, when the glory of Hill and Ste
phens and Lamar passed under a
clond, tho star of Blount rode high
in tho ascendsipt. Mr. Blount will
entor tho forty-sixth Congress with
tho advantage of six years’ train-'
ing in battling with giants, and his
intluenco and power for good, will bo
greater than ever. Ho will bo able
to speak as ono having authority,
and his advice will ho sought for
by mein in high places in matters
concerning his section; wheroas a
tyro with novor so muoh nativo abil
ity would liavo to spend all his time
studying the Congressional machin
ery, and consequently would bo al
most, uttorly without influence.
While Mr. Blount, therefore, must
fool highly complimented by tho
honor done him, tiro sixth district
should congrothliito herself on having
able, no experienced, so patriotic
and s<> iuihicntia! a representative in
Congress.
Wo trust Mr. Blount’s friends will
not yet consider their tusk ended.
