The electric telegraph across the Isthmus
has been finished and is in operation.
The Intent accounts from Petropol<*wski
gay that when the allied fleet arrived there
they found the town deserted and the forti
fications dismantled. The Russian ships Au
rora and Dwiua had sailed sometime previ
ously, up the Amon river, taking with them
all the guns, stores &c. The allied fleet had
sailed for Sitka, from which port they would
proceed to San Francisco, to re-lit.
The British ships of war Monarch and
President, and the French Frigates Eury-
dico and Lo Forte, from the Petropaulowki
expedition, had arrived at San Francisco.
The visit of the fleet to Stika was a fearful
one, as there is a compact existing between
Russia and the Britian government, exemp
ting tho place from molestation, it being the
depot of the Russian, American and Hudson
Bay Fur Companies.
Intelligence from Acapulco shite that Al
varez was fast making his way to the City
of Mexico, and constantly increasing his
forces.
A gentleman came down in the < >olden
Age, on his way to the United States, with
dispatches summoning General Wheat, who
was said to be in the United States, to re
turn immediately with or without recruits.
Robt. Teris, of l>annieville, a member of
the bas has been killed in a duel with the
lion. Charles Lippiucott The quarrel was
a political one.
Tho mining news was flattering.
George II. Wendell, late second mate of
the steamer Sierra Nevada, lmd been arrest
ed at San Francisco, charged with commit
ting a robbery to the amount ol *40,(100 in
gold dust, aboard the steamer last February
while on the passage down.
Advices from Valparaiso to July 14th,
had reached Panama. Also, dates from
Callao to July25tli, and Australia June 2d,
but there is no news of importance from
either point.
The Mexican 'Sewn.
The Mobile Advertiser of the 2<ith, con
tains the following telegraphic account of
the Mexican news, which is mare full than
any report we have seen.'

Fight and Abdication of Santo Anna.—
Finding himself unable to stem the t<- •
reut of discontent and revolution which his
odious administration bad excited, II. S. II.
Santa Anna left the city of Mexico on tho
0th inst., tinner the escort of 2500 men. and
took the road to Vera Cruz.
Two days afterwards 700 or 800 of hi?
troops revolted, slew one or two of therr
officers, and went over to the insurgents.
On reaching Vera Cruz, Santa Anna for
mally abdicated the Presidency,, and on the
17th embarked from that port for Havana.
City Merino.—A numerous and licen
tious mob bad ravaged the Capitol. The
“Halls of tho Moutezumas" were the scenes
of aggravated violence and rapine, and an- j
archy reigned supreme in the city.
The New Government.—The Alvarez plat- j
form hrd beeu adopted, and under it Gem 1
Carriera was appointed Provisional Presi- j
dent, and Gen. La Vega Commander in
Chief of thu army.
On the flight of Santa Alina, and lulling
to pieces of his government, the State pri
soners were liberated.
Fionr at Vf.ua Cruz.—A conflict be
tween two revolted buttullions and a regi
ment which still remained faithful to San
ta Anna, bad taken place at Vera Cruz.
The revolutionists were defeated with a
loss of fifteen or 20 killed, the remainder
fleeing to the mountains.

Santa Anna left tho city of Mexico under
cover of pretence of quelling the revolu
tionary movements in and around Vem
Cruz.
Doings in the Capital.—On the IStli,
the fourth day after Sant Anna’s departure,
the citizens adopted the plan of Aqucln, rose
in insurrection, destroyed the newspaper
office and many houses. About 40 persons
were slain in collisions with the military
and many wounded.
On the 14th, the statute of Santa Anna
was thrown down,bnt the people were pre
vented from carrying out their intention of
dragging it through the streets.

The Kansas Herald positively asserts that
there is a proposition ou foot to annex IMat-
te county Misouri, to Kansas.
From Sail Lake.
Dates from Salt Lake to the 1st July have
been received. The Grasshopers were des
troying the crops, and the danger of famine
was eminent.
New Orleans, August 28.
The San Antonio Sentinel mentions the
orriaal of Col. Riddell 1 from the headquar
ters of the Revolutionists in Northern Mex
ico. lie says Vidaury is willing to deliver
to the owners, all fugitive slaves eseapin
Mexico, and is anxious to make a treaty
therefor.

JPeteTAlniry, Aug. 27.—The Board of
Health report 17 deaths for the 24 hours
ending 2 p. m. Saturday.
There were SO deaths in Portsmouth Sun- 1
day.
There have been 212 deaths in Ports
mouth since Aug. &. 10 physicians have

Board of Visitors appointed by the Gov. of the State.
By an act of the Legislature of this State the Insti
tute has received from the General Government 140 Ca
det Muskets and accoutrements, and a field Battery
consisting of four six pounder Brass pieces and two
twelve qonuder Howitzers.
The Superintendent and the Commandant are Gradu
ates of Weat Point, and as both of them have had long
experience as Officers and Teachers, the public may. be
assured that the Government, discipline and course of
studies of the Institution will be strictly enforced.
