[Translated from the German.]
LOUIS OFFON GOELICKE,
of Germany,
The Greatest of Human Benefactors
Citizens of North and South America,
To Louis Offon Goelicke, M. 1)., of Germany,
rEurope,] belongs the imperishable honor of adding
* new and precious doctrine to the science of medi-
c e ie a doctrine which, though vehemently opposed
, many of the faculty, (of which lie is a valuable
member,) lie proves to be as well founded in truth
as anv doctrine of Holy Writ—a doctrine, upon the
vi iiiv 01 which are suspended the lives of millions
, I our race, and which he boldly challenges his op
posers to refute, viz: Consumption is a disease al
ways occasioned by a disordered state oi \ is \ it.e
ior"Life Principle) of the human body : QC/ - often
secretly lurking xa the system for years before
iheic is the least complaint of the Lungs —and
which may be as certainly, though not so quickly,
L . ure d, as a common cold or a simple headache. An
invaluably precious doctrine this, as it irwparts an ,
important lesson to the apparently healthy of both
sc xes, teaching them that this insidious foe may
bean unobserved inmate of their “ clayey houses”
even while they imagine themselves secure from
its attacks, teaching them that the great secret in the
ait of preserving health is to pluck out the disease
whcn i n the blade, and not wait till the full grown
car.
This illustrious benefactor of man is also entitled
to your unfeigned gratitude, and the gratitude of a
world, for the invention of his matchless Sanative,
whose healing tint may justly ciaim for it such a
title, since it has so signally triumphed over our
<r re at common enemy, ,fj' Consumption, both in
the first and hist stages, —a medicine which has
thoroughly tilled the vacuum in the MateiiaMedica,
and thereby proved itself the ( fj Conqueror of Phy
sic ians medicine, tor which all mankind
will have abundant cause to bless the beneficent
hand of a kind Providence, —a medicine whose
wondrous virtues have been so glowingly pourtray
ed even by some of onv clergy, in their pastoral
visits to tee sick chamber ; by' which means they
often become the happy' instruments oi changing de
sponding into hope, sickness into health, and sad
of friends into joyfulness
EJ q Q 3 3
GOELICKE’S MATCHLESS SANATIVE,
A medicine of more value to man than the vast
mines of Austria, or even the united treasures of
our globe,—a medicine, which is obtained equally
from"the vegatable, animal and mineral kingdoms,
and thus possesses a three-fold power, a medicine,
which, thougu designed as a remedy for consump
tion solely, is possessed of a mysterious influence
over many diseases of the human system,—a medi
cine which begins to be valued by physicians, who
are daily witnessing its astonishing cures m many
whom they had icsigncd to the grasp of the insa
tiable Grave. , _ , -

A certificate from three members of the Medical
Profession in Germany, in Europe.
Wc, the undersigned, practitioners of medicine
In Germany, are well aware that, by our coumc,
we may forfeit the friendship of some ot the lacul
ty, but not of its benevolent members, who are un
influenced by selfish motives. Though we shall
refrain from an expression of our opinion, cither
of the soundness or unsoundness of Dr. Goclick s
new doctrine, we are happy to say' that we deem
his Sanative too valuable not to be generally
known—for what ouv eyes behold and our ears
hear, we must believe. .
Wc hereby sta e, that when Dr. Louis Often
Goelick first came before the German public, as
the pretended discoverer of a new doctrine and a
new medicine, we held him in the highest con
tempt, believing and openly pronouncing him to be
a base impostor ai d the prince of quacks. But, on
hearing so much said about the Sanative, against it
and for it, wc were induced, from moti\ e of faii
•sity merely, to make trial of its reputed mitues
upon a number oi our most hopeless patient-'; and
we now deem it our bounden duty' (e\enal the
expense of self-interest) publicly to acknow ledge
its elficacy in curing not only consumption, but
other fearful maladies, which we have hcretoioie
believed to be incurable. Uur contempt foi the
discoverer of this medicine was at ouco sw allow ed
up in our utter astonishment at these unexpected
results; and, as amends for our abuse of him, wc
do frankly' confess to the world, that we believe
him a philanthropist, who docs honor to toe profes
sion, and to our countiy, which gave him biilh.
The recent adoption of this medicine into some
o our European hospitals, is a sufficient guaranty
that it performs ail promises. It needed not our
estiiuony fur wherever it is used it is its own best

A Late ami Valuable Discovery.
JOERHAPS tnero is nothing mo* 0 to
disgust trie public eye than the innumerable
advertisements of nostrums that are constantly ap

every day’s reports of ills and specifics. This state

Radical Cure oi Hernia or Rupture, by Dr.
Chase’s Improved Surgeons’ Trusses,
riiHE subscriber has opened an office, at the Drug
Jl stoic of Messrs. J- .1. Robertson Co., for the
treatment of Hernia or Rupture, by means of these
uslly celebrated instruments, lie has now used
them for nearly a year, and, did not delicacy forbid,
he could name several persons who have been radi
cally cured, of this truly distressing and dangerous
affection, by the use of these Trusses, besides many
others who are in a lair way of being entirely' re
lieved. The following is the language of the com
mittee ol the Philadelphia Medical Society on Hie
Radical Cure of Hernia.
“ The instruments of Dr. Chase have effected
the permanent and accurate retention of the in
testines in every case of Hernia observed by the
committee, without material inconvenience to the
patient, and often under trials more severe than
are usually ventured upon by those who wcarothec
trusses; trials that would be x impiudent with any
other apparatus known to the committee.”
“ The committee arc induced by the foregoing
conclusions to recommend, in strong terms, tiic in
struments of Dr. Chase to the confidence of
the profession, as the best known means of me
chanical retention in hernia, and as furnishing the
highest chances of radical cure.”
The following is from the Southern Medical and
Southern Journal, published in our own city.
“ All must admit of the radical cure of hernia,
and that Dr. Chase’s Trusses are decidedly the best
yet invented to effect the object.”
Persons from a distance can have the Instruments
applied, upon application at the office, and ail ne
cessary information given to enable them to adjus
it themselves. The poor, who are laboring under
this afflicting complaint, will be treated gratuitous
ly upon presenting a certificate, from someresponsi'
ble person,of their pecuniary disability.
The instruments are of all sizes, and applicable
to every variety of reducible rupture.

TO THE FACULTY AND HEADS OF
FAMILIES.
Dr. MILES’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF
TOMATO —-a substitute for Calomel, and
does not belong to the family of quack medicines;
for the reason that the component parts arc made
known to the faculty, or any one else that may
wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them
for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx
iously looked for, some one in almost the extreme
North has advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting tu
be made from the stalk, a thing not more aosuiu
than for one to offer meal from the com stalk, to
say nothing of the difficulty of raising the Tomato
so far North.
Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is the proprietor of the
Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits ol
which, he holds himself bound, and in honor pledg
ed to prove by their use, that they are all that they
profess to be, and will do for othcis what thej
have done lor such as mav have u.'ed them : as
Jiis is a vegetable of great use, and value, it wil
doubtless be valuable information to families tc

as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as mud
of Hie hapatine, or active principle, and when use*
as a daily vegetable will be found to keep tin
S3'stcm in much better condition than the othe:
kind ; many will recollect with what tremblin'
anxiety calomel has been given to children, am
how they then wished for a substitute, it ha:
long been known that the Tomato contained ca
thartic principles, but not until of late was i
afcertair.ci that .ney coniainea alterative and diu
retie properties. The Faculty embrace and usi
the preparation most cheerfully, for the reason tha
they know what it is Were it a patent mystery
they would be bound to reject the medicine, as the;
justly do tiie one thousand and one cure-alls of Hi
day. If you wish to cleanse the system with
mild, sa.e anti-bilious medicine, use the Tomat
Pill, of which a supply, wc leant, will soon bei:

The LIFE MEDICINES recommend themselves
in diseases ot every form and description. Their
first operation is to loosen from the coats of the
stomach and bowels, the various impurities and

remove the hardened fasces which collect
convolusions of the smallest iniesiines. Other
medicines only partially cleanse these, and leave
such collected masses behind as to produce habitu
